Guest Phillw454
Me and my mate have been arguing for 5mins so i thought id get some other opinions. The car is a clio 1.8 16 valve mk1 so L reg ish, around 137bhp and 900kg It has an exhuast system and KnN air filter aparently and thats it. And it keeps up with this evo around the track. I said no way is it standard or the evo isnt trying. What you think?
lust2luv
LMAO, but it's falling apart!
Cable
It could be a combination of many things like the guy driving the Clio could know the track like the back of his hand and the Evo driver doesn't. Or the EVo could be one of those strange 240bhp thingies etc.

chilli
when it comes down to two amateurs s on the track by far the biggest factor will be down to driver ability and knowledge of the track... so the video doesn't really prove much, after all they are not actually racing! Tom
yep, just driver skill, just like when people post up " I did an evo through the bends" everyone dismisses it because of the car and that there's "no chance" of that happening, not actually the fact that the "underdog" is a better driver
grahamc
evo driver was well off line through most corners...
tbourner
But even on the straights he can't get away and even gets overtaken pretty easily. I don't think the weight difference will be enough on it's own, the Clio must be tuned or had something done, or otherwise the Evo just wasn't willing to gun it for some reason. grahamc
the lowest is evo is 260bhp, right?
Mike
It would depend very much on if Charlotte was driving the Clio... She can 'do things' with a small French car even Jamie P can only dream about
Snooze
I had a mk 1 16v Clio a few years back. Great little car (until it fell apart), and a nippy 7 second 0-60 (scary lift-off oversteer too, I found), but a standard one would be no match for any Evo driven properly, IMO. Yeah thats what i was thinking. Think the clio is around 900kg standard
colsoop
As said above a combination of things at play That clio is probably stripped (judging by the noise from within the car) so has a great power to weight ratio. The guy in the clio can drive and knows the track, the evo doesn't perhaps ? Maybe that clio is just a track car and the owner doesn't care about it so is prepared to push harder. Driven properly im sure the evo is quicker, how much quicker i don't know.
JamesC
Evo driver definately didn't know the track or just wasn't trying, look at how early he's braking for the corners and how much the Clio gains.
Kittyclaws
yep, just driver skill, just like when people post up " I did an evo through the bends" everyone dismisses it because of the car and that there's "no chance" of that happening, not actually the fact that the "underdog" is a better driver I agree. My wife drives the Mazda 6 everyday, and she is a quick driver. There is a fairly twisty road near us called Piggery Hall lane, which we both use every day. one day we were driving home, her in mazda and me in a 1.3 Ford KA. I decided to floor it along the lane. She just about kept up, but upon arriving home, she said that she did'nt know what shit her up the most, the speed she had to do in order to try and keep up or when she saw one of my rear wheels pop up in the air when going round some of the bends I also done quite well in keeping up with a M3 down the same road. He had a car full, and pulled away on the straight bits, but I easily caught up on the bends, which at one point he pulled over sharpish and all of them looked round to see what was behind them, wish I was in their car when they saw what I was driving I may add at this point that I have had a few driving lessons before serving in Northern Ireland (as in the drive flat out whilst trying not to be shot ones)
supra61
evo driver must have been N1BR.
Wez
Here is the Clio again vs a WRX, same car I think. I think its an old Williams Clio and if so, they are pretty quick
chilli
looks like that clio was automatically stripping itself out, it's falling to bits and owner probably doesn't give a crap about it. It's true though, the clio gained so much on one bend along because the evo was early braking, so clearly the evo driver was a novice, new to the track, taking it easy and learning the track and so on I kept up with a big motorbike down a country lane the other day, because I drove like a complete nutter and the biker was probably shit scared, means my punto run around is faster than big bike? me think not lol
