Coolant leak

Hi all, wondered if I could get some advice on what I think is a coolant leak in my TT.

Parked up today after a half hour drive and noticed steam coming from the bonnet. Opened it up and one of the hoses had burst. I called the guy I purchased the car from and diagnosed it as the coolant hose. There was on the occasion along with spray coming out red drops falling from the hole in the hose.

I have temporarily taped it up and wondering whether it's safe to drive back home.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

David

You can drive it, but if the tape fails (which it will) the coolant will leak again and you'll lose coolant. The rate you loose coolant can't be checked unless you stop every 5 minutes and take the rad cap off checking inside the rad for where the level is, but you have to let it cool down to do this!

If you haven't got far to go then just top it up and crawl home with the heater on full blast to help it cool (and the air con off).

if its a long way then best call out the AA RAC whatever you have as too much coolant loss = head overheating = head gasket gone

not sure how much i've lost. It was leaking for about 5 minutes. It stopped and i let it cool down then put the tape on.

Check the rad level and the expansion tank level. If its more then 1 litre down then you'll have trouble getting home without topping it up every 15 mins.

What tape have you used??? The two part hose repair tape that says it can take high pressure & temperature?

just standard electrical tape. I've used a few layers but i'm pretty sure it'll just melt.

Think I'm going to sign up to the RAC lol. Was going to do it tomorrow!! :(

It will just blow off with the first sign of coolant flow or any pressure :(

Probably wise mate :Pling:

I have spare coolant pipes if you need them. Good condition.
