ShamelessTT
Im a newbie / nab and i have a dumb question. I have a J Spec TT Auto supra not had it more than a month so at the moment i drive like a granny completely 98% of the time.....as its also my first proper rear wheel drive muscle car so im treating it with respect!. Anyway ive been watching the santa pod videa (congrats on that btw its ace, very professional) the question is how do you get fast starts like that in an AUTO? i assume some of those were autos etc. Is it safe to get the revs up like that and bang it in drive with overdrive off etc? whats the nack? i just worry about shafting the gear box! lol.... Cheers, Si
tooquicktostop
Foot on the brake, build up the revs in drive and let go of the brake, this is really bad for the Auto box however, maybe why I had to go manual
ShamelessTT
ahh! theres no way of doing it without risking the auto box?
ivan
Yeah, only let it get to 2-3000 revs for a couple of seconds. Even that will damage it eventually though.
MarkTheBoy
Foot on the brake, build up the revs in drive and let go of the brake, this is really bad for the Auto box however, maybe why I had to go manual Its called powerbraking and its not great for the box, having said that its not common for the box to fail from the odd drag start. Just don't leave it cooking for too long and I doubt you'll have problems. Some people just sit there in drive and mash the pedal, but in mine i had a play with powerbraking and managed a 2.16sec 60ft time which is pretty reasonable compared to when I raced it before. BTW revving and dumping it into drive doesn't work, mine dropped the revs down to nothing and then had the slowest start ever. I'd recommend having a few goes at pod to find out what works for you.
