Fargo Posted April 22, 2007 Share Posted April 22, 2007 guys, ive noticed a big ol damp oily patch under the car, and need yoru help identifying the cause. first pic shows some oil driping from the nut (circled) on #1 turbo, this oil is also dripping down onto the o2 sensor. second pic show red fluid collating on nuts from what i think is the transmission area. third pic shows the same fluid on the crossmember. last two pics show fresh wet fluid on the floor pan and sprayed on the zaust. what seals do you think have gone... Fargo Posted April 22, 2007 Author Share Posted April 22, 2007 so main front oil seal for the turbo issue and main crank seal for the red fluid underneath issue. whats involved with replacing the seals, im thinking i could do the turbo one myself as im no stranger to the tools, however im thinking the crank seal may be more difficult. Paul Posted April 22, 2007 Share Posted April 22, 2007 I would have said that the third picture and the description of red fluid points to the rear seal on the gearbox. The crossmember in that pic is the one below the gearbox mount (you can see the angled rubber blocks above in that pic), the rear seal where the prop enters is a weak point and also the selector shaft seal. Fargo Posted April 22, 2007 Author Share Posted April 22, 2007 that doesnt sound so serious paul, i have checked the transmission fluid about 3/4 days ago before finding this leak and it was well above the hot level on the dipstick. guessing i need a ramp to get the seals replaced, any idea where one can find the part numbers. Paul Posted April 22, 2007 Share Posted April 22, 2007 No idea of part numbers, I had mine done at Phoenix in Watford. The rear seal is behind a flange, to remove this you will need a special puller as far as I know:( As you say keep an eye on oil level and it shouldn't be a major problem although the more it leaks the more gets spun onto the gearbox mounting and will soften and destroy the rubber blocks eventually. Well worth sticking in there mate, Mark is on his own now and I know Friday's are really busy for him. He's got plenty of experience with these and very reasonable too.
