tbourner
I've been thinking about taking the back seats out for a while, well since I got the car!! A few reasons: One is space for ICE. Two is to possibly put in a roll cage cos it might look cool (not sure about that one yet - especially as it's pretty much stock - I'm not into sheep in wolfs clothing!!). Three is an excuse to not give lifts to people (the best reason). Who is around the Pompey area who would be willing to take my seats out? Cos I wouldn't have a clue where to start!! Who could also make it look all pretty underneath - bit of fitted carpet would do, ideally a nice contoured bit of plastic/fibreglass/carbon-fibre/wood/glass/anything that'd look OK. I dunno what it's like under the seats so would welcome some advice. Got a 12" sub in box and 2 amps to go somewhere as well.
millhouse
Gibson & Boyne can take your seats out and put some carpet in
Faye
Taking the seats out is a piece of cake, 4 bolts for the back rest and the seat pulls out. Have a go yourself

Hi Trev Firstly I've got to agree with Kev and say take a trip to Gibson & Boyne, after seeing their work at Billing, I don't think you'll go far wrong. Decent blokes too A roll cage probably wouldn't be all that insurance friendly, because as far as they're concerned, the only reason you fit a roll cage is if you're in danger of turning the thing over I think that the rear seats themselves are enough of a deterrent to giving people lifts. Have you ever tried sitting in them for any length of time? I really think that Toyota would have been better off making the Supra a true 2 seater with a decent sized boot area. Personally I'm not into the mobile disco style of ICE, but that's probably because I'm the other side of 40 to you I like quality sounds, and high (to me!) volumes, but prefer the subtle style of install, rather than lots of exposed speakers and cabinets which look like the belong in the local band's PA system As Faye said, its not hard to take the seats out to get an idea of what it would look like. Before deciding either way, yank them out and see if you can live with all that space behind you. Bear in mind you'll lose your excuse to not go to the Supermarket, because you just can't fit all the shopping in
Sharpie
Would you loose any sound proofing ? i.e. rear tyre noise

lust2luv
Originally posted by Peter Sharp Would you loose any sound proofing ? i.e. rear tyre noise Interestingly I was driving around with my rear seats folded down recently, and the exhaust note was much more noticable with the windows up - louder and more throaty. Then again I've got a decatted NA with RSR, but the rear seats definitely do provide a level of soundproofing. Obviously if you're installing a ball-bouncing loud ice system, that's a moot point. I noticed this the other day as well (both cats in, RSR) Out of interest (and on a sidenote) lust2luv, Is your decat 2.5" single pipe or what? (PM if you prefer to keep the thread clean). dangerous brain
Can you hear yourself think with that exhaust and a decat? My Hyper is loud as you like but would decattin make the stereo a waste of time? In regards to the interior mine was the first out of Gibson and Boynes for both the fronts and the rears and I have nothing but good things to say about the guys. As far as roll cages go speak to Simon B I think he has summat fitted in his lol.
lust2luv
It's fine with the windows up - not too droney even on long motorway journeys. Took a 2,885 mile trip round Europe in May with the baffle out like that. With the windows down it sounds fantastic - rather listen to that than music. Then again, as I've said before, my previous exhaust was a fair bit louder, so I may find it more acceptable.
Nick
I've got a decatted Hiper and after the decat it was much, much louder. I'm just used to it, any other car I go in seems very quiet I use the factory stereo everyday, perfectly useable.
dangerous brain
Ah but you have two rotational silencers on yours that my N/A doesn't have.

I have a roll cage in my 200sx and it's "functional" rather than "cool". If you're thinking of some shiny polished monstrosity, then remember you need to have padding on anything you could conceivably whack your head against if you had an accident. If you are planning on using your supra heavily for track use then it's a good idea though. My insurance only went up by about 60 quid for coilovers and the roll cage. James. tbourner
hmm..... I did take the seats out at the weekend, it's not pretty underneath so maybe I'll think about something to flatten it all out. I could just carpet it all and stick the amps just in front of the strut brace, sub box balanced on the transmission tunnel!!! Otherwise I need to figure out how to cover it. My first and only idea so far is a big bit of wood or something from behind the front seats where it would meet the tunnel, to the front of the boot floor - at an angle with the sub cut into it and the amps on it - but that'd look really crap! Geoff, I'm not really a loud silly fan either, just like the sub and some good amps to give good quality sounds. I never thought about trying to hide it all - maybe because of ventilation concerns.
