Alright ..so i drive a White 1993 Toyota Supra N/A ..and i was driving it down the street and stuff..and all of a sudden the Tachometer started going crazy..i guess it looked like it was cutting out or something....going back and forth from bout 500RPM to 2500RPM and it's running really really really rich...black smoke ..and the car won't rev up past 2000RPM ...whenever it gets to 2000RPM the car like backfires and smokes and cuts out..or something weird ..i don't even know what to do ...there is this Sensor that keeps on ticking ..or Clicking ..i don't really know if that means that it's bad or what ..it's connected to the Throttle Body..i'm not sure what it is .. HELP?

I remember something like this happening my mate with an Audi,it took a long time to trace, but with my limited knowledge I would hazard a guess at it being the Lambda sensor which is what it turned out to be on my mates car, just a faulty Lambda sensor,it ran like a dog, wouldn't tick over properly, the rev counter needle was just waving at him.:)

I don't really know how to get all that stuff checked ..i'll ask around ..it happened around our spring break ..and we took it to the Toyota Dealership...and they ended up keeping it for like 2 weeks ..they did a tune up on it ..and it actually ran fine for i think 3 days or so ..then the same problem happened again ..and we took it back and it just sat outside in their parking lot for a week or so...and they didn't tell me anything ..we took the car from them ..and took it to a local shop here ..and fixed the problem ..by covering this whole in the intake ..that was past the mass airflow sensor ..and that fixed it ..until later that night..and that's where i stand now

Mine did the hunting thing, like you have described when I ran it without the IAC valve fitted, basically way too much air is running in, so it overfuels (black smoke) and then the ECU cuts it to save teh engine. It would do this cycle every 1-2 seconds.

Do a search for IAC valve and there'll be a description of how to test it with a multimeter.

the sensor you descibe sounds like the IAC, it should say Idle Control on it.

If you try to remove it, soak the two cross-head bolts in plenty of penetrant before you even try to move them, else you mash up the bolt head and you'll have to remove the whole throttle body to cut a groove in the head. Be careful, you'll probably want to remove the plastic cam cover first.

I'm going to go to Autozone to see if they got a idle control thing for my car ...they may not ..i don't really know ..so they may have to order it ..and hopefully that will work. Any other things that it could be? Just incase this doesn't work.

Expect something in the region of £400 for the part.
