Chase
I've recently fitted an RSR to my GZ, second cat is in, first is out. Car was boosting around 1.1-1.2 bar (actually KG cm2, but close enough), so I put in a restrictor ring as I found it a bit worrying , The car now boosted to around 0.9 bar. I've since swapped the plugs out for NGK BKR7E's, but decided to remove the ring again. Car's pulling really strong and is boosting to just over 1.1 bar. I've been doing a lot of reading of old threads for the past few days, and can't decide whether I need a Walbro and/or fuel computer. Some threads seemed to conclude it's necessary, others that the standard fuelling is fine to 1.2 bar (and a bit more). I've not got a FCD fitted. Should I be worried about fuelling or not? Should I get the fuelling checked on a RR? Should I just get a Walbro/SAFC anyway? Any input appreciated Cheers
Nic
Chase, it is very difficult to say whether you need to upgrade the fueling or not as it seems to vary from car to car. When I had mine dyno'd at 1.2bar on stock fuel system it was running lean, e-manage, pump and adjustable fuel pressure regualtor sorted the problem. I would recommend getting it tested on a dyno to find out, it is a lot cheaper than an engine rebuild.
Chase
Cheers for that Nic - Think that's probably the way to go, get it checked on a rolling road and then rectify anything that needs it.
Matt Harwood
Personally, I'd get a Walbro anyway. Assuming it's the original pump, it's probably quite tired by now. For £80-90, it's a fairly cheep, preventative, worthwhile modification. Especially if you're looking at doing more in the future. All IMHO of course
Chase
Matt do you (Vortex) supply the 342?
Matt Harwood
Yep. £88 + carriage. That wasn't my reason for the advice though. It was one of the first things I did on my car after increasing the boost... Cost me double that price at the time though!

Chase
Fuel cut is 1.2 bar isn't it? My boost gauge reads in KG/cm2 which is about 1.18 bar, so I've not hit fuel cut. Standard ECU btw.

Chase
ooh - Better go and have a drive and check the boost then
Chase
Been out for a spin, but roads are a bit wet. Boosted to 1+ bar for about 4 seconds, and then something happened. Power seemed to go as I was fumbling the shift from 2 to D, but no warning light on the dash. Video http://www.chasewebdesign.co.uk/supra/boosting.wmv (~500Kb) I'm gonna try again tomorrow. Willson
Yeah, testing boost pressure in the wet is always interesting I hope you were trying to read the gauge at the same time too !
Chase
Gear selector in left hand, video camera in right hand, right foot on accelerator and steering with left knee No - Fixed the camcorder to the seat and pointed it at the boost gauge. Also wired it through the DVD player so I could review it on my screen.
