Cig Lighter or other 12V Ig feed?

Trying to find a convenient 12V ignition feed with 5Amp. Thought it might be easier to trap Cig lighter feed and take it off that, but can't work out whether I can remove & refit the cig lighter from front of dash without access to the back?

Or alternatively can anyone suggest an alternative location (in footwell or engine compartment) to trap a 12V Ig feed?

Have a look for one in the steering cowel (plastic trim between steering wheel and dash).

Try and find a ig wiper feed, always a goodn and usally easy to get to. You can then put a fuse in that wire.

hope this helps!

This reminds me of something I've been wanting to ask for ages...

Why does nobody ever use the Ciggy feed for powering things? All the write-ups I've read regarding boost gauges etc say to use the clock feed.

The ciggy feed has enough power to supply bloody 240v invertors etc so why not use that?

The correct way of doing it, would be to wire a feed directly from the battery with a relay and fuse. Connect the relay up to a ignition feed. This will ensure that ALL the accessories you install are suitably fed without compromising the existing loom with too much current.

I agree. But it still begs the question - "where is the ignition feed?". Seems easy to say but not so easy to do.....

The ignition feed is just off the key barrel. If you take the plastic off underneath the dash on the drivers side, you will see the molex plug that connects into the key barrel. I can't recall the colour code for the ignition wire, I'll have a look at the wiring diagrams.. (White-black or something and yellow-black, but not 100% sure so don't use it). A multimeter will also help.
