s3upra
Your not on Aol by any chance? Its not just internet speed that matters, sometimes slow or low memory computers can have far more effect, also the amount of rubbish constantly running in background can slow things drastically. s3upra
Are you doing other things(on the computer) at the same time as downloading? 250gb is the hd capacity, the ram is the important bit, though if its only a year old this should not be a problem. Check how many programs run in the background, and only allow the ones needed. Apart from that i will leave it to the more experienced members to help-one will be along in a minute. JustGav
There is a thread regarding the proxy servers with ntl.. I currently use swan-cache-11.server.ntli.net:8080 and it seems to be pretty good at the mo.. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=101603&highlight=ntl+proxy

Homer
As always Gav, its down to NTL proxies.... Not sure whats happened in the last 6 months, but performance has really degraded, both access time (mainly) and outright download speeds However I did receive a message saying my connection was being upgraded to 20mb last week... don't see the point as it rarely reaches anywhere near 10mb now!! I got the same letter and phoned them up to ask if I could be moved to the trial.. and they added me to the accelerated list, not sure when and if they will actually do it. To be to fair to NTL, I have gotten some good speeds on occasions all the way up to 1mbyte/s, so can't complain really. Not really been pushing the last few months... no more heroes *grin* But my average traffic graph is nowhere near ten..

Consider yourself lucky mate , I'm on Virgin/NTL aswell. I got a new router yesterday and its the first time I've had all the pc's and 360's running together without a problem for bloody ages. But then the internet died completly at about half ten last night, absolutey typical.
