Just back from the garage, I'm a bit confused here! Seems my Supra has no parking lights! rolleyes:

Sent the car for a full service and when I went to collect I was told somehow they couldn't find the parking lights! They asked me if I removed them or is it manufactured like this to which I had no idea!

This may sound stupid but when I checked I too was a bit confused!

A quick reply is highly apperciated as I think I am going insane!

Parking lights? There is no requirement for what I would call parking lights (i.e. most VWs have them - you can switch just the sidelights on, leaving the interior/dash ligts off - and possibly select just left/right hand side). Supes have sidelights, like all cars (first click/twist of the 'lights stalk' (opposite side of the steering wheel to the indicator stalk).

What do you mean?

Parking or position lights ARE a requirment by law and IIRC they are part of the mot test. If you leave your car on an unlit road at night you are meant to leave your parking/postion/sidelights ON. Not many people do though.

The Supe though in its various guises, has different approaches of leaving the sidelights on when the ignition is off. IIRC the GZ UK domestic model has an alarm bell if the lights are left on whereas other models when you turn the ignition off, it turns the lights off as well regardless of how you left the lights (ie headlamps or sidelights left on)

On mine, if I want to leave the sidelights on I have to switch the ignition off then turn the lights one click from the off position on the stalk with the keys out of the ignition.

Give it a go. I'm sure you'll find you do have sidelights. ;)

OK so it's basically the ability to leave what I'd call 'sidelights' on?

Sorted. :)

I knew the bit about peaving your sidelights (sorry, parking lights) on when parked on an unlit road. Wasn't sure if it applied even if you parked with the flow of traffic; which is just a HC requirement rather than a law? (correct away! :D)

That's why I love this site - you learn something useful and new every day.

I'll give that a go tomorrow. :)

Thanks! The service was done for a Pre-MOT, and was told it might be a problem! hence wanted to check!

Do you have facelift (late model) headlights fitted and early model front indicators?

On the late model Supra, the side lights are located next to the indicators, on the early model Supra the side lights were inside the headlights. So if your car has been fitted with facelift headlights and your indicators are the original early model ones, you won't have any side lights.

If you're not sure, post up a pic of the front of your car so we can see which lights you have fitted.

Edit to add some of the more modern German motors etc have a parking light which you can show to the offside by leaving the ignition stalk in the corresponding position.
Actually this isn't a new thing. A lot of car's have done this since at least the 1970s.

You sometimes see cars parked up with one front sidelight on and the rear light one the same side illuminated, usually by accident because the (woman) driver has parked the car and got out while still indicating.
