how_supra
I need some help, I've been browsing ebay for the past few days looking at various laptops in the 110-170pound bracket - there are literally hundreds of them. My problem is, is that I don't particularly care what make, model, size, colour or shape it is Ideally it will have the following: 1)ATLEAST windows 2000 2)Atleast ONE usb [i know you can get usb expansions etc so Im not too fused if it only has one] 3)It would be nice if it had a dvd drive, but if it doesn't then a cd/rw will be liveable with and I will probably get a external dvd drive 4)A good graphics card of some sort, so I can look at photos clearly and properly. 5)The best processor speed I can get for the money I want to spend The rest of the stuff, memory etc I really don't care about. - just as long as I can browse the internet [broadband], download the occasional thing, use microsoft office, play music etc. I don't play games or do anything that warrants a really high spec machine Also I have just bought a USB 2.5" external hd carrier, of which I intend to use [taking the IDE HD out of my dead laptop which is 40b] If you fancy helping me out, can you recommend a few examples on ebay [buy-it-now] because I really have no idea

edd_t
if you get one with 2000 you'll need a 3rd party firewall and virus scanner. with todays modern ones they will kill an old slow laptop!

Thats cool, I have no issue with that. The best I can get for that money. I was on windows 98 before I bought a brand new laptop 18 months ago and I didn't have any problems with it is that other laptop totally dead now Sabrina? is it just the power connector? Its the actual DC slot thats beyond repair. So yes, dead Although can I take the parts out of the old laptop and upgrade another one?
Mas
Sabrina, if you willing to pay 170 for an old one why not try get a brand new one from Currys, I work there and Im sure they had some going for that sort of money a couple of weeks back. Its been put away in disgust so it is just sat there. If you fancy looking at it for me I would be happy to let you have a look. The annoying thing is that there isn't anything else wrong with it [although I think it overheated in someway so there may be a fundamental issue there]

Im sort of on the way back from Turbofit for Wayne, I could meet him somewhere? If he's okay with that? I should point out that the original charger died a very sad death and now only beeps at me when I plug it in and the universal one I bought there after - the appropriate adaptor - melted in the dc slot. So it technically has no working charger anymore [except james universal charger which I am borrowing] it's not a dell latitude by chance? no its worse its a Advent 7074 [a what?? exactly] ]

how_supra
no worries, what voltage ect is it? i have a huge box full of cr@p and there are loads of adapters in it On the original adaptor it states....... Output is 19v and 6.3a I will send the universal one with the laptop as the plug may well be usable even though it had to be removed with pliers. Are you absolutly sure you are okay with this? Do you want me to speak to wayne? If its not good for wayne I will get it sent to you.

But actually I was looking on US EBAY too at laptops, bit cheaper. But the powerpacks wouldn't be compatible would they? [or can you just buy a UK adaptor and it all be hunky dorey]
