Anyone want a free drive of my car? I need a checkover!!

CALLING ALL SUPRA KNOW-IT-ALLS.

My turbos are spooling quite loudly, I'm a bit concerned.

There are other noises I'm not sure about too, especially having owned a brand new car recently I dunno if it's all normal or not.

Is there anyone around that'd be willing to take it for a spin (not literally!!!) and give me their impressions?

I'd also like to put it up on a ramp and find out why the exhaust scraping on the speed bumps down my road seems to be getting worse!!!!!!!

Plus my pops said the exhaust wobbles about an awful lot when driving - looks pretty loose to me from underneath!

I'd be willing to drive if it was a garage somewhere! Then I could get you to do me a quick oil change service at the same time! :D

TB, i'd have a go/look at your car, i'm no mechanic but have owned a few with various noises so could probably help to reassure ya.......... you could also have a go in an aero TT if you fancied it.....sort of compare noises!

could meet you at say Liss / Petersfield on the A3?

after owning an s13 and s14 200sx which were virtually silent, when i got the supe it was like listening to a jumbo jet spooling up, and they've been like that now for 3 years and still hitting 1.2 bar (regularly) if they've gone noisy all of a sudden, worry, if not just enjoy the sound, it is easy to get all hung up on noises but honestly i would'nt worry to much, if you are worried get a reputable garage to test drive it and you point out the noises when its driving

Scoot, thanks m8, I'm more interested in getting it up on a ramp tbh, the exhaust is really low I think it needs re-fixing somewhere but I can hardly even see under it let alone do anything.

I'd also like someone to drive it for me though so a small meet could be a good idea - when's good?

Cool nice one.

I gotta learn my way around the car before I start just 'borrowing' ramps though!!! Need someone who knows about supes to go over it with me really - check it out.

Mainly need someone this week asap to help me re-attach my exhaust that now seems to be scraping even going up onto my drive!!!!!!

to be honest noisy turbos are normally a sign that the thrust bearings have worn take the pipes off the and grab the shaft and give it a wiggle up and down if theres loads of play then its most likely there fugged or get someone to follow you and see if its smokes badly under load if one or both are gone there not normally to bad to get reconed aslong as the main parts of the turbo are still good.what kind of noise anyway if its like a siren then i would say the bearings are giving in.

If thrust bearings are shot you would be able to move the compressor wheel in and out !!!, a slight amount of up and down movement is expected .

Yeh know what you mean just a loud whine type noise could even be a leak in the turbo as they do whistle when they have holes in them as i found out when a mate drilled a hole in his R5's one so he could hear it  spanna.

But to be honest if your really concerned a quick nip to your usual mechanic should take a short amount of time and could save you money in the long run it doesnt take long for an expert to find if the turbos are worn as you dont really need any tools to find out.

Have a look anyway the shaft cant be missed got aload of fins on and spins round :)

I've had the exhaust done at a friendly Toyota specialist around here.

I said I'd get them to do my battery as well so they gave me the exhaust repair free (took about an hour!!!!), and they'd add the parts onto the battery cost!!

Pretty good I thought.

Still want someone to drive it but won't be soon I'm quite busy at the mo.

I'll give Paul or scoot a ring when I know what's going on.

  • 3 weeks later...

I think it's my turbo!!!

It's not sounding good I'm quite worried, it'd give me an excuse for hybrids I suppose (nobody mention a single!).

Can anyone book it in for me? I'll try and get a day off and come down. Dude? Slow dog? Anyone else got a few minutes to spare?
