Jag S-type 3.0 V6 SE??

Anyone own one?

 

Anyone with any opinions or know of problems?

 

Found a nice T plate 80k one in BRG (the best colour) manual within my budget - ballast loves it but I just need to know what to keep an eye out for please???

 

 

 

 

 

(cue pipe and slippers jokes - it's got more oomph than the GS and looks more modern:D

funny u should say that chris im looking for one for work took a 2002 XJ V8 3.2 out today was like driving a magic carpet but not too sure on the shape though.

I thought magic carpets were all the same shape and size!!:D

 

My mates dad has the 3.0. Lovely car!!

there are good cars...best one to get is the supercharger though!!...only thing i can remember from having a job at jag is that the lower front ball joints always go on them and the ball joint is all part of the hub as well........

Hi Chris, i have not driven one of these but have heard early ones are problematic, not sure in what way but gearboxes i think, parkers had this to say which may not help but here it is, they are 240bhp also

Early model suffered plenty of problems - these appear to have been largely remedied now and a higher standard of reliability is now the rule. Jaguar frequently scores well in customer satisfaction surveys both in the UK and in the US.

 

Go for the Aristo, remember these Jags have Ford underpinnings.

I think full service history is a big must, is there a jag forum you could check on?

Here is an excerpt from a forum re s type, there are loads on here pre 2002 with transmission faults, although this is a us site

 

I bought a second hand 2001 S-Type at 55,000KMS, after another 40,000KMS the transmission packed it in. When I serviced it I found that this is was not the original transmission but that it had already been completely replaced - two transmissions within 95,000KMS? Unbelievable!! I cant but fail to agree with the previous comments that I have read in this newsgroup - I think this car is junk and I will never buy another Jag. A $120,000 car that cant even match a basic $17,000 Toyota - truely pathetic.

Cheers for the info mate - I had heard that there might be problems with the auto box but the manual seems to be ok.! I'd be perfectly happy with a manual :) but, due to budget constraints, I'm looking at '99/2000 models :(

 

Can't seem to find any forums - lots of classic car clubs and such but there doesn't seem to be a JOC forum??
