uFCPGA versus FCPGA??

In terms of PC processors.....

Can anyone tell me what the f**k the difference is between the terms in the thread title, i.e. physically?

Is it just the pin location on the underside of the processor chip itself?

My laptop shows that it accepts 479 Ball uFCBGA / 478 Pin uFCPGA. I bought a chip from ebay that states it was FCPGA and it doesn't want to fit, due to the 1 pin on the underside, being in the wrong position.

Anyone have any ideas?

Right Ben,

you've got me, that spot the difference competition is too hard

I would imagine that the Celeron M is the bit that makes the difference.

usually sockets with different numbers aren't pin compatible, However I suspect that a Socket 478 chip might fit in a socket 479 socket, but I doubt the reverse is true.

This is mere speculation

The difference is in the top right hand corner, one of the pin positions has moved, and I cannot find what type of chip I have. All photos of 478 and 479 pins are as the left hand side, but mine is telling me that it is a "Package Type - 479 Ball u FCBGA / 478 Pin u FCPGA" but I can't find any other evidence to support the pin movement....

And the fact that the above pictures are on a desktop Mobo you can ignore, they are simple to show the pin locations I have.

just found this simple description of the differences - mainly physical

i think (I was right) that the difference is to distinguish between the lower power 'M' version, and the fully blown desktop version. both packages have 478 pins - just to add to the confusion.

I was convinced you'd posted the same image twice, looking at those pin arrangements there's no way that the two would be interchangable.

Yes, I know....

Just realised that you already knew that - sorry mate, not at my most helpful at the moment :innocent:

Indeed...

That is EXACTLY what I was after, why can't fecking Intels website tell you that? No google searches brought that info up. So I have bought a 478 pin processor, and need a 479 pin (that has 478 pins). Bloody Intel!

Thanks Mike!
