Chris Wilson
The stock MKIV TT pistons are cast with a cooling gallery in the crown, like Skyline ones, fed with oil from a fairly large oil squirter hole in the con rod. All the forged ones I have yet to see haven't got this gallery. I found Tomei ones for my own Skyline engine that are forged, and have a cooling gallery. They don't do Toyota ones thaogh. I am 90& sure they don't exist, which is a shame as they remove a LOT of heat very effectively. Anyone seen any?

I have the English vesrion of the cooling channel info at: http://www.chriswilson.tv/tomei/efr_index.html
Chris Wilson
The price is far too cheap for them to be CC pistons, for a start.
Alex
Hmm how much do the Tomei's weigh?
Chris Wilson
Hmm how much do the Tomei's weigh? My Skyline RB26 ones at 86.5 mm, with cooling channels, were 475 grammes from the factory, with titanium coated rings and pins fitted. I got them down to 430 grammes by machining and hand finishing. I could get more off them with modern tapered pins, but didn't go that far. I can find no reference to Toyota 2JZ-GTE pistons on their current site, using the English option, sorry. bondango
Sorry Chris not something ive looked at TBH, noticed the 2jz listing on the site a while back, but after just checking it seems that the 2jz isnt the only one not covered for the OC'd forged. Ive found the english stuff i had on the OC's forgies..
Wez
From 320deg to 260deg on top of the piston, thats a huge difference.
Chris Wilson
From 320deg to 260deg on top of the piston, thats a huge difference. It is, that's why the OE pistons have this, it allows a cast piston to work where a potentially noisy, and more expensive forged one would normally be used. It's also why these turbo engines generate such high oil temps.
