Road Angel Problems

Clarkey

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Recieved a Road Angel on Friday. But having problems trying to get it to latch onto 3 of the Satelites. I've got it fitted on the dash board in clear view of the sky - but it keeps saying

--- mph ... which according to the manual is an indication that it has not found any satelites.

I've updated the s/w via the web - thinking that might be the cause but still no joy. I've had in operation in the car many times for maximum 35minutes.

I've read somewhere here that the tinted windows could be a problem - does this mean I need a GPS Antenna ?

Any ideas ?

Cheers,

Christian

Can take anything up to about 30mins of being on constantly to first aquire the sats.

That should ony happen once, mine only took about 45secs so I guess I was lucky.

Everytime I turn it on now it comes up straight away.

I think that the Supra's windscreen is normal. It's only ones with heaters that seem to cause problems.

My Road Angel and Tomtom Go work fine in my '97 Supra but aren't so keen to get a decent signal in the motorhome, when sited in a convenient position, due to the angle of the windscreen. A re-radiating antenna sorted them out fine in that.

Personally I'd take Terminator's advice and try it out in the garden on the mains adapter for up to 45 mins. If you still can't get a signal then its probably faulty :(

Try leaving it powered on inside with no view of any satelites overnight. This will charge up the memory battery fully so it retains the ones it finds better but will also remove all the current satelites in memory too. This is what I was told by RA when mine was taking a while to lock on, when they keep getting bit charges it sometimes begins to struggle.

Then once you've done that, take it outside and it should take 15 mins max to locate the satelites and away you go again, whack it back in the car and jobs a good un.

Repeat if you find it does the same a few weeks/months down the road.

Mines 1 year 3 months old now and had to do it 2 or 3 times and it always works much better after.......
