Crank Pulley balance?

Scooter

Recommended Posts

The crank pulley is uniform in make and i suspect fairly well balanced (in a similar way to car wheels are).

Would mass added to it (say 50g or so) have a noticeable negative effect?

If yes would a symmetrical arragement of this weight ie say "North and South" (rather than evenly all the way around it) mean it would be back into balance or is this too simplistic?

my 'idea' is that something (a shaped piece of metal plate) could be bolted onto the pulley using the two existing holes in the inner part. It would need to be bent so it fits in the inner part but comes out and the end sits vertically and alongside the outer part of the pulley with 1 or 2mm clearance fromits front face. (make sense?)

My thinking is that for cases like yours this would stop the pulley leaving the crank and all the problems no Aux belt brings.......

I suspect this 'guide' could even be set up to squeal like low brake pad warning things (not that metal on metal contact wouldn't cause quite a racket i'd imagine)....

Pulley 'balance' is a factor as this attached piece will spin with the pulley.....also loss of one of these at speed could be potentially as damaging so maybe its just creating a different problem.........

Just an idea.........
