alan_blue
ok we have a little spare time at work and have arranged an egg race, but not the normal egg and spoon sort. we are to propel an egg down a track of 30 meters and the egg must be intact when reaching the finish line. rules are: must run on the ground once crosses the start line no external guidance is allowed. must cross over the "ramp of death" which is a see saw like device. no major commercial parts are permitted so lets help me and the team win! get your ideas in here _________________
Supra_Star
Please tell us more about the track.... Is it down hill and if your are not allowed to give any external guidance once started how does the egg keep moving?? what does major commercial parts mean?? What i thinking is would you be allowed to put the egg on one of those mini skate boards?
alan_blue
it is flat and we have to make everything ourselves
Animal
it is flat and we have to make everything ourselves So putting the egg in a chariot and harnessing a team of hamsters to it is out of the question then?
garetheves
So putting the egg in a chariot and harnessing a team of hamsters to it is out of the question then? Now that i would love to see, a team of hamster pulling an egg along. Brilliant.
AlliRR
throw it before the start line and get your team to catch it intact at the other side of the finish line. technically its completed the course - unaided from startline and no mechanical parts are used! tbourner
Must run on the ground though!! Make a very wide model car with no steering, rubber band propelled!! Where is the 'see-saw' on the track? Middle? Near the start?
TLicense
Wind-up car toy. Job done.
alan_blue
wind up toy car is a commercial buy, and the see saw is in the middle and you cant have any team members past the start line so finish line is also past the start line
Matt H
isnt everything your could ever wish to buy commercial? Me thinks we need a better definition!!
Matt H
O.k been thinking: You need a 2 litre coke bottle, water, something to put your egg in with lots of cushioning (bubble wrap perhaps), a footpump, 4 wheels and a base (MDF?) to put your bottle on and attach the wheels (go for roller blade wheels or something), then (someone else add info here cos i cant quite remeber), after filling half the bottle with water, attach the footpump so its sealed, pump her up so the pressures high and with a bit of luck the pump should bcome unattached from the bottle due to pressure, and the water should come out like a rocket effect from the end of the bottle and shoot the whole thing off like stink along the course. Make sure the base is heavy enougt to keep the contraption on the floor! Do a search for 2 litre coke bottle rocket thingy on the internet! Hobgoblin
Got any jobs going? An easy commute for me, and egg and spoon races sound more fun than being imprisoned in an office all day.

Yeah you use a cork IIRC, stick it in the end and use a football pump adaptor to push through the cork! Could be interesting when it hits the ramp though!! It probably won't continue running on the ground for much after that!

Supra_Star
How about this.... make yourself a cradle for the egg attached to a home made skate board type base and to that attach a small inflated balloon not tied. at the start of the race you let go of balloon thus proppelling egg forwards to finish line. you would need to practice how much to inflate the balloon to get the full distance of the track. silvershark44
wrap it in a huge ball of bubble wrap and just roll it as far as you can! Job done!
penguin
Or make a coke rocket (i think it mentos in coke that cause a mass reaction) attached to the home made skateboard - egg surrounded in bubble wrap.... hmm - if you surround the egg is a lot of bubble wrap i'm pretty sure you could just throw it ove the 30 meter line
Supra_Star
hmm - if you surround the egg is a lot of bubble wrap i'm pretty sure you could just throw it ove the 30 meter line but what about the see-saw??
alan_blue
good ideas guys keep them coming, however the starter has to place th egg in its cradle so therfore it cant be wrapped in bubble wrap
garetheves
Dont know if its been mentioned as ive not read the previous posts but why not just secretly hard boil an egg the night before and switch it for the "competition" egg just before the race. Then push it along the course as hard as you like
silvershark44
but what about the see-saw?? that will go over the see saw np

Ark
Stuff the winning - use the bottle rocket idea to propel the egg into a hard surface as fast as possible, and lose with style!
tbourner
Ark's onto a winner here! If there's no prise or anything just create something that will launch the egg into the air after 10 seconds - have your own competition; whoever it lands on wins a Mars bar!
