egg race

ok we have a little spare time at work and have arranged an egg race, but not the normal egg and spoon sort.

we are to propel an egg down a track of 30 meters and the egg must be intact when reaching the finish line.

rules are:

must run on the ground

once crosses the start line no external guidance is allowed.

must cross over the "ramp of death" which is a see saw like device.

no major commercial parts are permitted

so lets help me and the team win!

get your ideas in here

Please tell us more about the track....

Is it down hill and if your are not allowed to give any external guidance once started how does the egg keep moving??

what does major commercial parts mean??

What i thinking is would you be allowed to put the egg on one of those mini skate boards?

O.k been thinking:

You need a 2 litre coke bottle, water, something to put your egg in with lots of cushioning (bubble wrap perhaps), a footpump, 4 wheels and a base (MDF?) to put your bottle on and attach the wheels (go for roller blade wheels or something), then (someone else add info here cos i cant quite remeber), after filling half the bottle with water, attach the footpump so its sealed, pump her up so the pressures high and with a bit of luck the pump should bcome unattached from the bottle due to pressure, and the water should come out like a rocket effect from the end of the bottle and shoot the whole thing off like stink along the course.

Make sure the base is heavy enougt to keep the contraption on the floor!

Do a search for 2 litre coke bottle rocket thingy on the internet!

Yeah you use a cork IIRC, stick it in the end and use a football pump adaptor to push through the cork!

Could be interesting when it hits the ramp though!! It probably won't continue running on the ground for much after that! :D

How about this....

make yourself a cradle for the egg attached to a home made skate board type base and to that attach a small inflated balloon not tied.

at the start of the race you let go of balloon thus proppelling egg forwards to finish line.

you would need to practice how much to inflate the balloon to get the full distance of the track.

Or make a coke rocket (i think it mentos in coke that cause a mass reaction) attached to the home made skateboard - egg surrounded in bubble wrap....

hmm - if you surround the egg is a lot of bubble wrap i'm pretty sure you could just throw it ove the 30 meter line :D
