CJ
Both my sons have managed to damage the screens of their laptops. they are quite old machines and I was wondering if it would be worth trying to source screens for them and if so, where from. The laptops are - Toshiba SP6100 and S1800. Failing that, can anyone recommend a budget priced laptop (x2) as a possible Christmas present for them both? They rarely play games on them and use them for interwebnet surfing (downloads etc), homework and other teenage crap!
JustGav
Replacement screens are usually hellish expensive... You might get lucky and find some ebay, but usually not worth the cost.

chilli
yeah generally the only way is to find a second hand dead laptop going cheap - but the screens are probably the most common things to go so it's a long shot... you could still use it more as a desktop machine with an external screen but if it's old it's probably not worth it anyway, won't even be powerful enough to mess around with
Todd
May be worth a punt for the screen http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toshiba-SP6100-P4-Mobile-Absolute-rubbish_W0QQitemZ120058243047QQihZ002QQcategoryZ177QQtcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and for the other one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toshiba-S1800-Laptop-Screen-14-1_W0QQitemZ160018488786QQihZ006QQcategoryZ31569QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
CJ
Thanks for the help guys - much appreciated. I think I will end up looking at new ones for them as knowing my luck, after buying a screen, the damn thing will go kaput anyway! So, any recommendations on a laptop? I looked at the site shown earlier but my problem is, I am a technical numpty and wouldn't know a hard drive from a lump of cheese
Graham S
how about a second hand one from ebay, or that out of the question? I know a friend of a friend who can get one (or two) cheap
Todd
Buy the cheese, a lot better when your hungry, hard drive never really satisfys in that respect I got a dell laptop of carlos last year and got to say quite impressed, still going strong and never let me down. The Acer laptops get a bit of a slagging but once again, father in law got one last xmas and never failed him yet and for the money was a right bargain. As with everything CJ, all down to your budget

I can then come back to you clever folks and see what you then recommend.
Pete
We're doing a good offer on a HP notebook at the moment. See this - http://www.midlandcomputers.com/email/tandgnov06.htm It's a special deal to T&GWU who we sell a lot to, but I don't see a problem selling one to you at this price.
