Matti85
Hi guys. Need to remove my unfinished car (changing the interior dashboard) some 200m to another garage, but is it wise to start the car and drive with no instruments and so on. I mean ive not touched anything that should affect the cars drivability, just the displays and panels so i could remove the dash. Asking cuz it did not start, came a small vibration noise at first, saw that the gear knob was in L (forgot it there) so put it in P and the noise changed to a klicking noise, which i know from past that it is the battery (would make sense since the car have been off for 2 months), ive put it on the charger now. But thought it would be wise to ask y guys in the mean time, so that i dont do anything stupid. Can i move the car 200m or so (if it starts) when the inside looks like this =)
Prof. Monkey
Morning, I have run my car with out the dashboard facia's so it is do-able, I went about 3 miles like this. However, considering the amount of stuff you have removed, I would push the car to the next garage or tow it, if it is Manual. If you got stopped driving it, what would the police make of the condition of the car?
Nic
Just plug the all gauges, switches etc. back on and it should be fine. I drove mine for a month like this, whilst I got my panels coated.
Steviekid
You'll probably have to put the steering wheel back on.

Pig
You'll probably have to put the steering wheel back on. lol If its only 200 m is it worth the risk??
Matti85
Well geting cought for driving 200m would make me the most unlucky person in the world =). Its an auto as y see in the pic, and the last 10m to the garage is uphill so would not be possible to tow it. But yeh i could plug on the most gadgets back on just to be safe, just thought that they are all just to inform the driver and should not have anything to do with drivability of the car. Pig
Its fine to tow an auto for a short distance. 200m still being classed as short!
DaveK
I've looked into the procedure for removing my dash panel because I need to change a few bits. I know from that, it says that if you've got an airbag don't turn the ignition on without plugging the top part of the dash back on - otherwise, you will have a permanent airbag light. I guess since you already tried to start it - if you have airbags, you might already have triggered this and will only know once you refit the dash. uk-rich
are you doing the heater matrix now you have it this far apart
Matti85
Yeh thought about checking the heater matrix while am at it, but further investigation on the crashbars that needs to be removed in order to acces the matrix put me off, will let it be like this and continue next year. Did try to start it, so if the airbag light is on, how will i turn if off, just for future referense ?
