Syed Shah
Dull red oil = needs change of oil Brown oil = needs new box This won't be too expensive if you can find a used one, so get looking. As for dealer inspections, I've had them tick the 'inspected' box on bits the car don't even have!

Chris Wilson
If an auto box is slipping it's buggered, or well on the way to being buggered. If topping the (dirty) oil up stops it slipping it might be worth dropping the oil, flushing the cooler, and fitting a new sump filter, and refilling with fresh, and doing this 2 more times, and praying. Depends how long and how much it has been slipping. If such a fix is done please let me know so i can make sure I never buy it
SUPRA FLY
Cheers mate! Well put it this way I wouldn't want a dodgy job done on the car because it'll make my warranty void plus will break down and cause me more grief anyways. Whateber is wrong will have to be fixed.... question is what is wrong and who will pay for it? I'll post up findings once Toyota's import sports car specialists (Jemca) look at it this Friday. It might become lesson learnt for other Auto owners....am just hoping it won't be at my expense. I have my whole body crossed

JohnK
Smell the oil on the auto dipstick, if it smells like burnt toast its bad news, if not you may be lucky.
SUPRA FLY
Do I need to have run the engine or gear box quite a lot before I smell it or can I doo it from Cold?
JohnK
Dip the box as you would normally to check level. engine at idle, place the car in each gear a couple of times then dip the box.
