miko_supra
When the car is doing around 1500 2000 rpm and under load this sort of deep rattling, like a growl is coming from underneath the car. affney
not 100% but sounds like iether your cat is on its way out or you have a gap or hole in the exhaust somewhere

tt red supra
does this happen in every gear, while the engine is under load??? and does it vanish when you get above say 3500rpm... If so i have the same problem im hopeing its noting serious with the gearbox but my finger is pointed at a lightened flywheel, i did a search and i think this was the best i came up with..... Nic
It could be something as simple as an exhaust hanger that has come loose, causing the exhaust to resonate at a certain rpm or as complicated as a gearbox problem. It's very difficult to diagnose a noise from a description, see if you can get it checked out by someone who knows what they are listening for. sdavies
Sounds a little like when my CAT was on its way out (although it was about 2500rpm under load and although low growl had a tinny edge to it), chap at garage took a peek and the thing disintegrated. - ah well - decat it was
Daston
I get a simular noise in all gears all the time although it isnt really noicable until it hits 5-6k. So far i have suffered no performance loss or anything dropping off so I am guessing its just a loose heat shield
mikeyb10supra
Failing the possible exhaust isuues causing the problem, it could be wheel bearings letting go
Scooby
Does it change with the road speed or engine RPM?
Bob
1st cat heat shield?
miko_supra
Ok checked all the heat shields. they are all fine. its rpm related, not speed, and yes it occurs in all gears. It also disapears when i go beyond 2,500 ish rpm. I has a slight bell like sound to it too. from your replies i do think it is the cat. Can this be put into the tech section too any one? as i managed to find nothing like this in there, could be helpful to others.
