adi2009
Took my car out today. Was driving it quite hard, hit around 20psi of boost, and after I got back I noticed that the idling was rough and the engine was puffing out black smoke. Now does this mean my turbos are gone or is it my engine??? any help would be great cheers adi

Matt Harwood
Do you have a boost gauge? My guess is almost certainly a hose popped off as the MAP sensor is now seeing no vacuum, it's adding fuel as if you were at 0 boost. Relax and go check your hoses
Matt Harwood
Just re-read the thread, obviously you do have a boost guage, and if you sustained 22 psi for any length of time, you may easily have melted something serious. If it was just a spike, you should be OK.
bondango
As said Black smoke is usually Fuel. You should be able to smell it too. With a Jspec being MAP based, a boost leak dosnt usually make it run as rich as a UK car but check all the Intake and IC hoses. It will be seeing 0psi if it was leaking around MAP sensor area, so holding the revs at around 3K should see the smoke clear slightly. Get the plugs out and give them a check. what plugs were you running for 20psi?? Compression check wouldnt go a miss either to be on the safe side. 20psi can do damage to a few stock items that are on there last legs - Hoses, BOV, FPR etc etc
