Bob
A write up would be handy - something I could do with if I decide to strip the engine down due to sheer boredom!
GetawayDriver
well so far i jacked it up and undid one nut. not much to write about. looks like i need to drop the subframe and lift the engine a bit too. anyone know if i can use the jack with a bit of wood on the sump? still no idea of how of how to get to the top of the drivers side without taking lots of pipes out. i'll take some pics anyway
Chris Wilson
It can be done, but it's real fiddle.
GetawayDriver
i am slowly finding this out. i think i will have to abort it this weekend and allow more time next weekend so i can do it all in one go, sadly i need the car tomorrow so can't leave it. GetawayDriver
Hi Chris, Could you give me a brief overview of how you do it with out removing the turbos etc? does the oil filter have to come off too? i've been taking photos so will do a full write up. may be something that crops up more and more with the age of the cars. Thanks Jamie
Chris Wilson
Drop the X-member, raise the engine. You need a ramp and a cross beam to do it safely.
dini_the_owl
I just undid the lower bolts by removing the undertray, make sure the front is on ramps to get underneath the car,the two bottom two are visible,if you right underneath you should be able to get a socket on the upper ones too.... then just jack the front of the engine up,with a block of wood, not on the sump but at the very front where the fan hangs over,on the engine casing, sorry you may need to slightly undo the 4 transmission bolt mounts to give you a bit more play... jobs a good un took about 2hrs. have you got a popping sound on take off......?????
