Paul Laing
Since fitting my Strut Brace i had to take off my UK Scoop thats inside the engine bay, i still need to modify this and put it back on...thing is when i wash the car if water goes into the engine bay through the vent and onto the top of the engine, will the car missfire if it goes onto the spark plugs or electrics? Theres allways a bit of water on the strut brace. Just lastnight on my way home the car seemed very strange, it was running very lumpy and i thought my turbo's had gone! It went by the time i got home and it's fine this morning.....cars running perfect again, any clues? Think i'll put my scoop back on soon as! Also, when i wash round the exhaust, it's a good idea not to get much water into the exhaust is that right? Any info would be great, cheers Paul
BigRoy
Water ingress will cause problems. As you have noticed already, water and electric coil packs dont mix:D
Paul Laing
Think thats all it was, i honestly thought my turbo's had gone! 2nd turbo was there but it was very "jumpy" all the way through the revs! Glad it's just the water, and the turbo's are fine! I think i'd know about it if it was the turbo's eh? Cheers, Paul
BigRoy
I'm sure your be fine but would get it sorted, miss firing for whatever reason is not good. You wouldn't throw a bucket of water over a mains socket:p
Paul Laing
Anyone know if the Scoop stops the water getting in?
BigRoy
It directs air flow onto the turbo housings. (puny j specs dont need this) Any moisture that gets through would be vapourised:eek:
Paul Laing
I'll have to put this back in, modified straight away! Don't want this happening again. Sounds like it was that. Paul
Roy
funny but i have always been worried about having the trd style bonnet and the issue of water ingress. but to be fair, thus far and a fair few months - no problems so far on anything. maybe i shouldn't tempt fate eh ? outatime
Probably is water related, but how long have your plugs been on? The jumpy feeling is misfire, mine is doing at the moment because it needs new spark plugs...

Paul Laing
Nahh i don't think it's the plugs, there fine and the car runs great today. It has to be water from the vent, i used a very powerfull hose!! haha

Yank cars had the larger tubbies too and they had no scoop. funny but i have always been worried about having the trd style bonnet and the issue of water ingress. but to be fair, thus far and a fair few months - no problems so far on anything. maybe i shouldn't tempt fate eh ? Roy, you'll need to wash it to get some water ingress though surely?? Ben..
Paul Laing
The yanks turbo's are identical to ours mate. Also, aren't the UK's bigger? Thats why the Jap ones spool up quicker..... Lets not turn this into a Jap-UK thread.....
outatime
The scoop is supposedly to keep temperatures down at sustained high speeds on the autobahns. Toyota were worried about cracks appearing by the exhaust ports between cylinders 3 & 4. Thats where the scoop directs the air.

The Jap tubbies are actually physically bigger in size than the UKs, just different internals IIRC. Ben..

The A/R of the uk/us turbos is bigger though.
lovatt
i have no underneath part to my scoop, it has been on for a few months and is washed twice a week and used alot ! no problems for me i would have thought the water will evaporate straight away as the engine is hot

Bobbeh
Paul, I think Johns slowly turning to the Darkside (UK's) after last weekend Funny looking at the top 1/4 times, the UK's seem to be mixing it up quite well
