Trouble replacing spark plugs

Hey guys,

Took the supra into toyota today for its 96000K service, as part of this they are replacing the cambelt and spark plugs. However they are having real trouble getting the plugs out as they are heavily corroded in there. Thus they have informed me they will have to replace the lead set aswell (as they had to pull these out to get to the plugs) at a cost of 120GBP including labour.

Does this sound about right?

Are corroded plugs common? What is the cause?

I've had cars in various states of abuse and I have never seen a plug that can't be removed due to corrosion - and that includes on my dodgy old f**d escort!

The only reason you should need new leads is if the resistance of the current leads is out of spec - you can check this yourself with a multimeter.

I think these guys are BSing you mate.

I cannot see how they will need to replace the plug leads because the threads on the plugs are rusted (which will be the only way you'd have trouble removing them). it shouldn't make any difference.

Also, saying that they have to replace the leads because they had pull them out to get to the plugs is a bit odd. They would have had to do that anyway, which does not result in the need for new leads.

It sounds like they are pulling your leg and trying to make money from you. I would go in and get them to show you what they are talking about.
