TLicense
All, I'm off to Brands for a days spanking about. I'll probably be in need of some new pads if I were to spend more than a few hours hooning it around, can anyone recommend a "track only" pad? Also as you've probably guessed I'll be changing from my "everydayers" to the "super pad" in the AM and then back in the PM. So it's something I'll be doing on the day, at the track. What tools will I need. Is it a right B'stard? Am I better off doing it at home and creeping all the way to brands on pads that'll probably struggle to get to temp? Oh yeah, this is what I'll be up against... Click on brands hatch 5th april view atendees How do you all recon I should do? Thanks

womble
You need to fit and run them for a good few miles before you go out on the track to bed them in to get the best out of them.

Guest Terry S
Tony, when are you going? I have sourced some superb compound pads for testing. They will be with me the end of next week. PM me if you are interested.

Cheers for the offer Terry, but to be honest I'm not sure if I'd be able to give a reasonable apraisal, as this is my first day, tacking the supra. I'm going to need some new pads in a couple of thousand miles anyway, but having only the j-spec brake set-up, means I could do with something a bit meatier for the track. What did you have in mind, something like a one session on stock one on new compound back to back? If you think I can be of any use to you then let me know. Guest Terry S
Tony they are only available for UK brakes at the moment. I am planning to do an appraisal on the track-road pads, and the fast road pads, but was just trying to help out. CW's race pads work well well but are expensive, very noisey, and very dusty. This should not concern you on a track day, but be careful with pretty wheels as the dust/deposits can eat into the laquer. My personal experience with Porterfields was not all that. CW's work much better.
TLicense
Many thanks for you input Terry. Is it possible to get EBC red stuff for our cars? I'm currently using green stuff on the road, and tbth I think lacks a little. Wodnering if the red or even black would be a better track alternative. Scooter
Tony i have some CW race spec pads on my car and they are fine for normal road use as well. They are going to have to go when my new wheels arrive (due to the dust factor), so may be looking to get rid of them. If your interested we could arrange to swap pads for the trackday? and see if you like them, they do seem highly recommended for track use..... BTW swapping the pads is very easy especially if the 'meat' left on the pads is similar. Just another option for you

Just another option for you Scooter, That is mucho kind my friend, although I think I'm going to go straight for the CW's myself. How bad is the dust? The car get's meticulously washed once a week, so pad dust isn't usually a problem, plus I'm intending to have different pads for track/road use. Thanks once again. Scooter
Tony, personally i wouldn't / don't want to be running these pads with £1500-2000 worth of alloys. I'm not sure frequent washing will solve it 100% either, and at my usage (35ish miles a day) a weekly wash certainly hasn't been enough to save my stock 16's (not that i care about these) If your using them just on the track then i don't see it would be a problem really and they are excellent at stopping the car which is what the Race spec are focused at doing above all else, but you may be able to have your cake and eat it if you get the fast Road spec CW's. I suppose it depends how much track time you'll be putting in and how enthusiastic you are when your there! maybe need some input from any track day people who can vouch for the Road spec performance?
