Injectors

What’s the difference between makes (these could be stupid questions – I don’t know? ):

Performance?

Reliability?

Reaction?

Atomising?

I have a standard 2000 manual TT and will be doing the usual BPU this year so am starting my budget, which I assume includes (in no specific order):

Injectors

Fuel pump

1st de-cat

2nd de-cat

Exhaust

FMIC

Plugs

ECU management + fuel controller? Or is this the same?

Filter

Boost controller (probably bleed valve – keeps the car un-cluttered)

Boost gauge

Restrictor ring?? (is this needed as well with a boost controller - i have an AFM)

Will also add:

Turbo timer

Exhaust temp sensor

New brakes all round

I will keep the ceramic turbos until I kill them (keeping it at 1.2bar which seems to be the safeish limit) and then go for hybrids because I think the power increase will be enough for my small brain to cope with and I hate the lag I’ve got at the moment anyway.

I want to keep it drivable and reliable, basically a quicker version of what I’ve got.

I bought some 2nd hand 550cc UK injectors (still need the pack).

Given the US exchange rate at the moment I might just buy some new ones that don’t need the resistor pack but would prefer not having to change them again when the turbos go, and presume its best to have the injectors running near the top end of there capability for atomising??

Suggestions/help on any of the above plus as much info on injectors as possible.

Many thanks

Stephen V

injectors r basically injectors, so long as they r balanced and speced right (not too big not too small) then its cool. u will need some form of fuel control, either fuel computer safc etc or ecu.

im liking the look of the rc injectors at the moment, better than paying for 2nd hand uk's and arsing about with the ugly resistor pack. might b able to get a bit of a deal going through thor if a few more r interested?

You've got to consider:

Impedance

Fuel rail fitment

Intake runner adaptors

Spray pattern

Longevity/quality/reputation

RC Engineering are supposed to be rather good quality. I know Terry had some awful spray pattern problems with a cheap brand, but I can't remember which one it was.

UK spec 550's will run hybrids nicely though.

Edited to say for chrissake get them flow tested and cleaned before fitting, CW does this with a quick turnaround and a two figure cost :) And the RC injectors I have are low impedance so they still need a resistor pack...

If you are changing to the bigger style rail, Bosch or Siemens. If it's an HKS rail you are pretty stuck with Denso( rebadged), and if it's a stock rail you will need side feeds again you are pretty stuck with Denso ( again, rebadged). If RC make a side feed they should be OK. I think TRL sell them.

Always get the cleaned/tested even when new. I had a set of brand new 1000cc HKS flow tested and two of the six were 30% down! If they sit on the shelf too long they can clog up, and you have no way of knowing just how long they have been there.

BTW, low impedance react faster, but the ecu only see them as high impedance on a Supra, so all the resistor pack is doing is making the low impedance behave like a high impedance. You would need an ECU with low impedance drivers to take advantage of the faster reactions of low impedance injectors.

Cheers for the posts:)

I was definatly going to get these 2nd hand UK 550's cleaned and tested IF I KEEP THEM.

I'm ok with electrics and the help in the tech section seemed pretty simple so i might give it ago, but thought the straight replacments a little appealing.

If the injectors have different flow rates can they be adjusted? and what sort of %difference is deemed as ok.

Yeah they clean them so they generally increase the flow. It's pretty rare to get them all idnetical. As long as the are close they will be OK. The place I have mine done do them for Pro Drive. Pro Drive send the batches of 36 injectors in the hope they will get 8 flow matched ones back, so you can see the differences. It is less important to Joe Public than a WRC team though.

I'd like to chip my 2p in - Power Enterprise.

Jap company thats making waves at the moment, top quality, good price and great products. I spoke to thier President at Tokyo Auto Salon and he's very enthusiastic.

Power Enterprise, 550s or 650s, Side Feed, Hi Imp.

Gaz.

They have been around for ages Gaz. Thing is I can now get the Blitz as cheap. What are they about £100 an injector?

Nice one Wez. Thing is they will probably cost £90 by the time they are here. Also, more people don't have the electronics to control 850's properly.

Agreed, but you would have to modify the fuel sytem to go that big IMHO, which would mean a dual feed rail ( modified stock) like my old set up.
