Elliot
To cut a long story short, after nailing it around a bend earlier I got a really bad smell (burning oil?) and a few seconds later the belt at the front started squeaking really bad. I can't see that it's slipped off anything, but does anyone have a pic to hand so I can double check? I'm round a friends near WAtford, but really need to get home tonight and don't want to call the RAC. Can anyone explain the smell before it happened? LeeT
The smell was probably the belt slipping as you put the power steering under load nailing it round the bend

Elliot
Thanks guys I'm pretty sure the p s pump is on still, unless it's not sitting right. We haven't got a printer here, so can't print the pic but I'm pretty sure they're all still on, so maybe one has slipped Anyone in Watford with a few tools?! Elliot
Thanks Carlos, I had checked that thread already but knew it wasn't the crank pulley, as mine had snapped in half before! lol I called the RAC as it was pitch black, and I had no tools at all, and he suggested it was one of the bearings, but he couldn't identify which, so down the garage today I think! On of them seemed ever so slightly loose, which might explain the squeaking, but not sure whether to just try tightening, or getting it looked at properly. Alex
I've heard of PAS pump bearings failing.
