silvershark44 Posted August 23, 2006 Share Posted August 23, 2006 Hi Just got my car back from the garage, and amongst other things had the front brakes changed as well as the brake fuid. Now I know they are brand new pads, but the brakes have become incredibly spongy. Have they fucked up the fluid change or is this the pads just wearing in?? One thing ive noticed it that they seem to brake hard if you repetively pump the brakes! Im so pissed off about this, because it braked about 10x better before this work was done! Luckily i havent paid for th job yet. But i just want the heads up on what the problem is before i take the car back tomorrow to get it sorted. i wish there was a proper supra specialist near me!! Scooter Posted August 23, 2006 Share Posted August 23, 2006 sounds like, air in the system, a loose bleed nipple or possibly fooked master cylinder. Firstly I'd look at each corner for signs of leakage and check the reservior level. I think you can check the master cylinder by pumping the brake pedal and then holding it, it should stay firm and not sink down at all (i think this is the way + may need the engine running) Is it wet round your way at the moment? can you easily get the abs to cut in? I'd suspect poor bleeding but whatever it is isn't good! the new pads should work well from new, you should go gently with them to help them bed in, but if you needed to do an emergency stop shortly after fitting they should be up to it no problem. Scooter Posted August 23, 2006 Share Posted August 23, 2006 If they were fine before does that mean that the garage has fucked my master brake cyclinder?? i've not heard of it with the supra specifically but on other cars there is a risk of the seal going within the master cylinder due to the range of motion when bleeding being so much more than in normal use. Its not something i know much about personally, its more something i've read. Loads of people on here will have had fluid changes with no issues, so i wouldn't worry too much at this stage about the master cylinder i'd just take it back like you've said and get them to check it out.
