What car for 3k?

Tom

Recommended Posts

I've been racking my brain as after selling the car and paying for the trip and debts etc I may only have around 3k to play with minus insurance, so what would you recommend for 3k?

Requirements, must be a manual, still have some street cred and be reliable, rwd would be nice, I've been looking at S13's,MR2's,soarers and even 300zx's as If I wait a little I may be able to stretch to 4k, anything else anyone could recommend for this price bracket?

TIA

Tom.

I'm in the same situation but have less money available!!!

MR2 turbo is the obvious choice. 200SXs I love.

I'm looking into kits like Lotus 7 replicas etc. Lots of fun but completely different to a Supe. Also I'd like a beach buggy, You can get a finished one for about £700 although a good quality one will be more.

The way things are at the moment, how about an N/A supra

I have been looking on autotrader etc but none have caught my eye, not even ones that cost 10k have actually!, who knows maybe a 'quick sale needed' may come up!

Lol a beach buggy would be damn cool! Oh I forgot ro ask I'm around 6'3 would I actually fit into an MR2?

im 6'1 and fit into a mr2 turbo without having the chair all the way back. so you should have no probs.

Ahhh! Michael, would 3-4k get a rev 3? and a fairly decent one?

Prices are all over the place at the moment, 3-4 can get you rev 3 one week but then the next it seems to be rev 1 money.

I helped a mate buy a tidy '96 Turbo last year and we got it for £4500, absolutely immaculate until someone crashed into it and wrote it off :(

Like the Supras the bargains are out there.....

well i paid the money for mertoc but i'm also of the "you get what you pay for" ideal.

having trouble selling the FTO at the moment because there are so many sheds coming in right now thanks to the ESVA/MOT rules and all people see is "oooh that one is a grand less!" then they sign up to the owners club with a catalogue of problems.

Get something good but don't get something because it is cheap, it'll only cost more in the end.

Dont go for a 3k 300ZX-look to spend at least another 3k on the engine rebuild that wil need doing-unless you are very lucky...ve been there and done it.

You are looking at the 4500+ mark for a good one and even then they still need constant matenaince.

200SX are good but these days and with prices going up due to the 'drift' scene are an excellent choice. You could pick up a mint S13 for peanuts a few years ago.

I would respect one of these on the road over a mr2 or zx etc...a tuned one will destroy a BPU supra, ive sen this first hand as well, easy car to work on as well....always a bonus ;)

I know what you mean though, look a bit bland....need a GTR bodykit otherwise I would'nt touch one
