any mountain bikers on here?

Best tip is check out what the pro's are using, they have a massive choice of bikes available to them, whatever they choose must be pretty damn good,obviously your budget wont stretch to the upper end of the mountain bike market but a budget bike from decent make will be just as good for the money.

Ive got a specialized hardrock sport, about 500, never failed me, very reliable.

Never owned any other bikes tho so not sure about the others!

This is my baby. Nearly sold her last year because I'm not allowed to throw it down mountains on the advice of my Doc. However its still great for local rides, and is sturdy enough to cope with my robust frame! :D

 

 

Mind you its waaaay out of your price range I'm afraid.

rear suspension not valued that much then? im off to professional shop tomorrow, you can see im well out of touch :sos:

 

 

Depends on what you want to use the bike for. If its for full on hardcore DH stuff then its a MUST.If its for XC and you're not taking big hits or doing alot of off road then its not so important. My rear shock has a lock out to prevent pedal bob on climbs and can also be set so it'll move for big hits but not small ones. I also have a lock out on the forks, and an adjustable pivot point for between 4"-6" of rear travel depending on what i want the bike to do.

 

Go to a few shops, try out a few bits and pieces, then try ebay or MBR or something like that and try and get as much as you can for your budget.

 

The Orange is a great bike, and as was said all the frames are the same its just a case of the quality of the components.

 

On an aside to get the most for your ££'s buy towards the end of the season which for most is around Oct time, as alot of people MUST have the latest all singing and dancing bike!

how much can you get a P7 for what does it look like?

 

when i think of orange i think of those halfords £90 bikes :D

 

Ohhh, the shock of it, the cheek of him, Orange and Halfords in the same sentence.

 

Both my wife and I have a P7 each, I built them both from just a frame, including building the wheels. My little claim to fame is that my frame is Metallic Black and I met Lester Noble (i think that's his name) and he told me they only made five frames in that colour.

If I were you, I'd be me, but that being said, I think it's great for a person's first MTBike to be a hardtail. Learn to ride it well, then upgrade, or just build a full suspension bike. I yearn for one, but there's very few places that I've ridden that I couldn't ride on a hardtail (albeit with a bit of pain), and I've ridden some extreme sh*t. The components, wheels, and tires are the most important part in my opinion. Sh*tty parts in that department means sh*tty experience.

My biggest tip is to put as much money as possible into the frame choice, next the drive train, next the brakes. That is, when deciding what offers the best value for money spec wise, remember that you can up-grade the ancilliaries later as and when, but the frame is the most expensive bit.
