Blatant Plug for my Bro's Paintings

Morning,

If anyone is interested in paintings, prints or driftwood gifts, please have a look at my brothers website http://www.surf-art.co.uk.

He has totally self taught and does it from a spare bedroom at home. The business hasn't been going too long and 'Surf Art' is just a sideline at the moment, but he already has some work in a few galleries in cornwall, devon and Wales.

Apologies for the blatant plug, his website isn't very visible yet and most his sales are from word of mouth. I'm just trying to give him a helping hand ;)

Any advise on improving or optimising the site would be very welcome :)

Here are a some examples:

Thanks :)

can he oil paint a supra?

He says he can, but it probably wouldn't be any good :)

I'll give him a photo of mine to have a bash at.

Charlotte: Thanks, the 'Pink Lady' painting is very popular, he has sold a few prints of it on ebay.

Cheers for the kind comments people.

No, he lives in the midlands. Growing up, we spent most weekends and holidays on the coast in Wales (where I now live) and travelled around surfing loads of places. He plans to move to North Devon in the near future. It's not cheap down there though :)

As far as advertising, as well the website and ebay he does the odd craft fair. He has work in 6 galleries, mainly in Devon and Cornwall and I always sneak his business cards into surf shops on my travels. I try to wear one of his t-shirts when there is surf, or we go somewhere with surfers about :)

Still mainly word of mouth, friends of friends etc.

Shame he lives so far away from the sea when his passion is for painting it/surfers etc.

When we went to St Ives there were loads of galleries showing similar stuff, has he ever considered doing some kind of promo tour?

I think his work would be well received. :)

Yeah, he gets down that way every couple of months or so. He is 'in talks' with a gallery in St Ives at the moment, most of his stuff is in the Barnstaple/Woolacombe area.

St Ives is a tough place to sell to, they prefer locals and the standard is very high. The response so far has been ok, but the galleries generally take repeat local artists and fill up very quickly.

When people see his paintings, they tend to selll - it is just getting them seen (hence this thread). For example, the local art society have a small exhibition in Aberdovey (the above harbour painting is there) near where I live every year, which is more of a sailing than surfing place, and he couldn't paint them quick enough to keep up with demand.

It's a hard trade to make a living out of - very sporadic. Like I said, it is only a sideline at the moment but I think he would like to do it full-time eventually.

Thanks for the interest.
