snoot
I was gonna fit an active spoiler today. I have the ecu and switch and after finding the plug behind the drivers side head light, thought i had the ecu and switch wiring. There aren't any active spoiler switch or ecu plugs behind my dash Has anyone managed to wire the switch and ecu, without the oem wiring loom? I've read some forum posts and it seems to be pretty tough to do.
Pixelfill
If you've got the plug behind the drivers headlight, it's hard to believe you haven't got the loom behind the dash. My connectors were tucked out of the way down beside the drivers footwell at the back of the dash surround. try looking there. Mike
snoot
I spent about 90 mins looking for the plugs. From what i've been told all TT's had the correct plugs but i really don't think mine has. I did find 1 long white plug taped up near the top of the dash but i wouldn't fit the ecu when i finally got it free. Has anyone got any pics of the connectors when the dash is apart? Maybe something showing the wiring loom and direction it's coming from.
Pixelfill
As I said, my loom came up from the back right of the dash (drivers footwell area) The Active spoiler ECU plug looks as below: Mike
snoot
Well, i'm whipping off the dash/console again tomorrow to fit a new head unit. I'll have any really good look to see if i can find'em. I really thought the connector for the switch would've been in the same loom as the trac switch but i guess that isn't the case. I might actually take out the drivers seat so i can get right in there and have a good look up. Although seeing that 3rd pic i really don't think they're in there. I pulled the drivers side of the carpet off in that area and there was nothing there either.
Ruff_Rider
You don't need to take the drivers seat out to get a good look. The loom wont be too far away from where it needs to be as they are all made to measure. Just pull up the carpets in the footwells. As Pixelfill says, it will probably be tucked up out of the way somewhere, or completely removed. Does your car have a stock front bumper as the active spoiler probably wont fit with an aftermarket bumper?
snoot
The bumper is stock. I'll pull the carpet back a bit further than i did earlier today, maybe i missed it.
Matt Harwood
I've checked two cars for active spoiler wiring. Neither of them had it. One was a 1997 car, the other was a 1994 car. Both had the wiring under the headlight though.
snoot
I looked really hard for the plugs today, but i couldn't see them. I'll check again tomorrow when i pop my new head unit in, but i'm not getting my hopes up.
Ruff_Rider
Are you saying that theres no active spoiler switch on your dash, next to the slip control switch? If there's no switch ie has a blank switch thingy, then i doubt your car ever had one.
snoot
It came with the blanking plate thing fitted. Having looked on the forums and speaking to people here, it seems that the wiring loom should be there.
Pixelfill
Ruff, most TT's came with the Active Spoiler loom present, even if the optional spoiler wasn't added. Mine never came with an Active spoiler originally but the wiring loom was there. As snoot has found the connector at the motor location, it would more than likely mean that the rest of the loom is there - just doing a very convincing job of hiding I'm fairly certain you have the loom snoot, good luck finding it tomorrow. If I get chance I'll take a photo of exactly where mine was tucked away. Mike

Ahh okay - missed your post Matt, sounds a bit perculiar that the connector behind the headlight would be there but not the rest of it - I'm sure you are right though - must mean I dropped really lucky with mine then Fingers crossed for you snoot. (I do wonder what the other white connector you found is then maybe you could get a picture of it tomorrow when you have the dash out.) Matt Harwood
I made doubly sure. I went as far as removing the entire loom from the top of the bulkhead! - Seems like its a luck of the draw
Guest Garfy
Hi mate, I had the exact same problem a few months back, had the wiring behind the headlight but nothing behind the dash, check out this post, it gives you the wiring diagram for the ecu, but its no easy task, I set fire to the ecu so then I wired it up using two relays you will also find the wiring diagram for that in the post, to be honest I think it might be better without the ecu because you can lower and raise the spoiler when ever you want, and you can do it with the original switch http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=62263
Mcgoo
How do you do it with the original switch? Mine works automaticaly but would like it to work manually??
Guest Garfy
How do you do it with the original switch? Mine works automaticaly but would like it to work manually?? Have a look at the pictures in the second post of that link, you will need two relays and some wire, I used the Auto off Switch for up and obviously down for down, you have to hold the down one in till it is down but that is only for about 2 seconds. Ruff_Rider
Has anyone tried painting the plastic bumper trim and active spoiler with the body colour, then wiring the active spoiler to stay down? Or would this affect performance at low speed?
Guest Garfy
Wouldn't effect performance, but may cause problems with hitting the ground
Mcgoo
cheers, might give it a go.
