I do like that Mugen CBR.:)

A mate of mine has a 916SPS and would take it over any Japanese bike. He's got a Gixer1000 K5 too, and has owned a string of Gixers and Kwaks for the past 15 years.

The only problem with Ducati's is they can have a mind of their own. Sometimes they just decide that they don't want to go out and play that day, and there's nothing you can do about it! They're a labour of love, personally I couldn't live with one.

I totally agree. Ive owned two Dukes, and to say I had problems with them is an understatement. Dont get me wrong, they sound awesome, and handle incredibly well on corners, but they are so fookin unreliable. My 748 wouldnt start 6 times in a 6 month period. Each time it went back to Ducati Manchester for a look over. Each time I got a courtesy Ducati to use, and the funny thing was 2 of them ended up on the back of a truck as they wouldnt start as well!! My Monster was exactly the same - totally unreliable.

Ive since bought a K5 GSXR1000, which is a thousand times better than any Ducati I could have bought, and its cheaper too. Ive owned it 12 months and the Gixxer hasnt had any problems, not one! Its been awesome. I wont be buying another Ducati thats for sure. Do what everyone else on here says, and buy Jap. If your really after a twin, imo I would go for an SP-2 or even a Mille before a Duke....

Let us know what you decide. What Duke were you thinking of buying?

Electrically - very italian, prone to going down right at the last minute (topical!)

also very uncomfy so if you are bigger than say... a jocky then think about something else. nice to look at but that's about it.

oh and watch the service costs, some of the dukes can be extortionate.

i have a Ninja, it's bright green, goes like the proverbial, has more ability than i'll ever have and has been 100% reliable and you can service it yourself. Can't fault it.

If your set on a v-twin then i agree with carlos, go for a aprillia

Saw a lovely new white Mille at this years TT. Very nice colour imo, with a red seat, and white and black fairings.... The one here is the factory spec one, so you get all the nice things like Ohlins and brembo radials... ;)

that looks nice, bet thats a few $

I dont think they are crazy money for the spec. From memory the factory is about £10,500 and the R is about £9k. But someone will probably have exact prices....

One things for sure, to get the same spec add-on's on a Duke, you are looking at the 999R which retails at circa £20k!!

Like you mate, Id have gone Jap!
