Air Fuel Ratio and Combined Injector Duty Cycle monitor

All,

I've designed an AFR (Air Fuel Ratio) and combined injector Duty cycle

monitor unit.

Although technically and functionally it's fine, it does look a bit

dull.

http://www.trlperformance.com/afri.html    (imagine this in a

rectangular box)

Just two horizontal rows of 16 LED's   (NOT 7 segment LED!!!! before you

ask)

Now, as a marketing exercise how would you like it to look if you were

to fit it to your car?

Does it need to be small, thin, curved LED's, circular? ramped?

Etc etc

Colour, general design features?

What about other functional changes?

A buzzer if the injectors reach 100% or if the AFR reaches LEAN or

dangerous setting???

Anything would help me decide on how to manufacture the device.

I don't want any discussion on the validity of an AFR sensor using a

stock O2 sensor or "it'd be better with a wideband O2 sensor" etc etc,

just the asthetics and functional changes.

I am doing an LCD version with text and graphics so that'll please the non-flashing light brigade :-)

But for those who love simple cheap devices and lots of lights in the car this is for you !

Cheers

I think for me the biggest thing is to try and get the unit to fit neatly with the stock interior.

The reason i went for fitting my guages into an A-pillar pod was because it does look like a factory fitted item, well as close as you can get!!!!!!!

Obviously for you that is quite hard as what will look like a factory fit item in one car, may not in another.

As Martin said, a lot of people try and maintain a clean interior so you should look for somewhat standard to put it and design it round that. I believe the most common places for such a device would be in with the stereo.

Also at some other point if you're going to add some other devices then having them so they link up a bit like the Blitz SBSC or the avc-r units, so you can have the two 1/2 din units look like a tidy 1 din unit etc. Personally I think if i'd mount one it would be in the roof lining as long as it's not too deep so a 2x 1y 1/2z ish style would be better, that way it could be mounted either flush or facing.

I think the LCD style might be better than the knight rider LED rows ;)

I would want the LCD read out and a buzzer would be excellent, as long as you could turn the buzzer off. Just in case it got on my nerves while doing track days.

A neat little square box would be good, perhapes could fit where the ash tray is.

Or if you require to be able to view it easier while driving mount it on the top of the dash behind stearing wheel, with a black wire to perhapes cut a hole in the top and thread it through.

When will the LCD one be ready

Thanks for your comments.

Hold on :-) give me a few weeks :-))

I've only just finished the LED one. The same SW should fit in the LCD version but the box design and manufature will take time.

It'll look good and you'll want to show it off :-)

Cheers
