Changed gearbox oil today.

Managed to get the new V160 in today. I wanted to change the oil due to 2nd gear being a bit whiney and 1st is making a slight binding type noise at a certain speed. I usually hear it when i'm in a carpark. Anyway the stuff that come out was red but certainly not V160 as it smelt totally different.

I have a feeling this daft sticker has something to do with what was in there.

Anyway the new oil seems to have made no difference and when i was under there i noticed a little bit of oil around the propshaft connection area.

Not sure what it means but it aint bad as there was plenty oil in the box.

I'll give it some time to see what happens, got a nice long journey down to Hartlepool soon so that'll be a good test.

Nothing to worry about mate.. It normally seaps out from the gear selector on most Getrags and ends up here.. Also if you have any sort of engine oil leak it normally ends up around that area when your on the move.

Mike, I was also looking at your garage pics and that orange Beetle is looking rather smart m8. I'm not sure if the Supe is the right car for those farm tracks though. I take it that you have quite a bit of fun with a few hundred BHP pushing the rear-end everywhere.

Regards buddy, Andrew:thumbs: :salute:

P.S. I ain't got any pics in my garage as I still can't figure out how to get them on!!!!!!! Biff:giveup: :dontget:

How long did this take, I'm looking to do mine as well, just can't be bothered yet.

I think i was just over an hour, but i was taking my time and checking other stuff out while it was on the axle stands. I bought some 8mm tubing and cleaned out an old oil bottle for filling which made it really easy.

You'll need a 17mm ringy for the plugs and a bigger ring spanner for the leverage. :)

Thanks SupraAyf. That's my long term project, had her about 9 years now. 4 years ago i stripped it down to the ground, it's running a 1600 with twin webers on a 1300 gearbox and it can show up a lot of modern stuff on the corners. :D good for a break from the speed machine.

Cheers
