AJI
I know there are a number of AutoCAD users on this BBS. As some of you may know my job is of C.A.D. Manager for the company I work for and we are currently using AutoCAD 2006 on our windows 2000 network. Have any of you CAD users noticed any problems with your software? I'm posting this because on our network the software runs about 10times slower than AutoCAD 2004. All our CAD PCs are higher than the minimum spec required for the software. Its things like basic drafting/modelling, printing, image manipulation, even simple stuff like text entry is soo much slower than any other CAD package we ever had. I've tried emailing AutoDesk and also tried a couple of CAD related forums but nobody seems to be able to help. Our IT have no idea and there is no obvious reason as to why its running so slow. We tried the usual thing of completely un-installing and full re-install etc. We've tried running it on other PCs with different graphics cards etc. etc. but still no good results. Just thought I'd try on here to see if you guys have similar probs. I suppose the good thing is that we are to be upgrading to AutoCAD 2007 sooner or later. michael
I upgraded our doodle boys from 2004 > 2006 - the only issue we had was with the licence process, performance seems to be the same.
jonshaw_uk
we got 2005 running were i work - when i did the install I created a licence server so that the software could be installed via an image which i created. I then had to point cad to the licence server to check the details before it will run. We've got it running on 1.3 Celeron PCs at the moment with 512mb ram and works ok but we just had some dell 2.8 P4 and runs really well. when installing 2004 did you have the option about the licence server installation? AJI
Yeah our CAD also looks to the server for a licence.
Animal
Mostly 2006 runs fine on the servers here, although it does occasionally run dog-slow for a while (hour or so) then speeds up again. The version I'm running on my home pc (the one with a wooden leg, parrot & eye-patch) runs fine with no slowing down at all
jot_ie
Even though we have group licences, all the autocad installs are on a stand-alone basis. Ie installed on a local pc and licenced from that pc, not from the server. They then run according to the speed of the local machine. Gigabit network cards and switches shoulf really be installed for networked autocad John
Rob Dublin
We had a similar problem. When you tried to print it was taking forever. Problem ended up being something network related, not CAD.
