Guest suprageoff
Hi When we got back from the Southampton meet this evening - Michelle put the Supra in the garage but when she went to reverse it to move it over slightly, the autobox refused to engage reverse (eventhough it was showing reversing with the beep etc), while on the dash the "Slip cont off" was flashing even with depressing the slip cont button. When I tried and put in "D" it stalled. I checked all the levels and all were fine. I switched the car off for a few minutes - restarted and then it was fine. No flashing warning of "slip cont off" reverse worked all was fine. Any ideas? Geoff. (TANZX)

Guest suprageoff
I checked all levels and all are fine. I did a search on the forum and found that it is often associated with clutch in the auto on it's way out. It's going in for service soon so I'll get the guy to check it out. Thanks, Geoff. CJ
That is identical to my problem. I would be interested to know what your garage says. CJ
Guest suprageoff
You don't think it's just some faulty electrical connection? I remember when we first got the Supra and it had to go back to the dealer with a head gasket problem that when they came to pick up the car it wouldn't move in reverse (I wasn't around when they came so don't know all the details). They sorted it there and then and that was a electrical fault. Just a thought! Anyway my wifes putting the Supra in shortly so we'll see what our guy comes up with. Geoff. Guest suprageoff
CJ I've looked at your post with the problem and that you did a search but did you also see the one >MKiv Technical> Auto Transmission by damar 2000? Geoff.
Jake
Probably not related and no help at all but just in case it might help, I had a very similar thing with my 525iSE Beemer. I took it to a guy I know who is an ex BMW main dealer mechanic and he just reset the ECU (from under the bonnet, using some thing that looked similar to a flashlight) and it was fine again. He reckoned it was a faulty contact on the gear lever sensor or some such. It happened again about 6 months later but he fixed it again and it was fine for the next 18 months until I sold the car. Hope this helps
Supraguy
Exact same thing has happened to me about a dozen times in the last few months. I have had the car fully serviced, all fulids good, reset ECU, etc etc etc... all to no avail. The only way I have found to get rid of it, is to turn the ignition off for about 5-10seconds and then restart and its always fine afterward. I would be VERY interested to know what you find out. Darren
I had this problem on my car occasionally after I got it. Turned out one of the magic boxes added for SVA was causing it. Think it was the speedo convertor...got it changed and happy days again......

It was by any chance the speed delimiter as this could well be up the spout and could then be causing the problem. Let me know if you can find out what exactly caused it. Thanks, Geoff. Timwildman
Does the auto box ecu stop the car from going into reverse, if it's registering a forward speed? Only guessing now, but it would make sense if the converter is giving out a small signal (because it's faulty), saying it's going forward. this would stop reverse from being selected. Supose this would be a sensible safeguard on the auto box.
Guest suprageoff
Right - if it's to do with a faulty SVA box - such as delimiter, speed conv. etc. the question we need to ask is: ARE THERE ANY UK SUPRAS WITH THIS PROBLEM WITH THE AUTOBOX??? lET US KNOW. Geoff.
Supraguy
I took off my Speedo converter a couple months ago, and the problem still persists. Also, no delimiter in my car because I have a Blitz Access ECU.
Guest suprageoff
So if it's not any of the magic SVA boxes then it must be like it happened with the car when the dealers mechanics picked it up -a loose connection in the auto box. I must speak to them and find out what they did. Geoff.

matt
Check the connections at the sub TPS. I had similar probs after removing the trac butterfly. Its the first connection on the intake.. Oh, check the error codes too
Supraguy
Leon tried to pull error codes when the car was serviced, but nothing came up. I dont think the fault showed up during that week though. Its sure a pain in the arse faut. Never ever shows up when you want it to.
Darren
Sorry have not been on for a couple of days...the guys said it was cos mine was a VVTI auto ie newer model. I occasionally could not get the car to go back or forwards and the slippery surface and snow lights were on. Motormall SVA'd my car if that helps.
