suprattgaz
Just to confirm, been doing lots of research but it all seems to point towards the following short statements:- 1.blue smoke on start-up and after a blip following tickover for several minutes is worn valve stem seals. 2.Blue smoke whilst driving, decelerarting etc is turbo seals. 3.Both are more apparent after a full de-cat. 4. Oil in the FMIC and BOV is pretty normal. ????????????????????????????????
suprattgaz
Does this sound right to you lot? Or am I in the wrong ball park?
ADD
a full decat will certainly bring any problems straight to your attention...a small bit of oil in fmic and bov is pretty normal i would say, certainly if your blatting it...1 and 2 im not to sure, you'l have to wait for the technical wizards to arrive!! just used that wonderfull "search button" and yeah it seems all your theories are correct my friend
Marco
#1 is not 100% correct I think When you blip after the car is already running and you get blue smoke, it's most likely the turbos on the way out. Stem valve seals only show up when you start the engine. I remember Clarkey having this blue smoke at a local meet, and it was indeed turbo seals gone. suprattgaz
Well I have recently had both cats off (within the last 3000 miles), and it has started to blow out a puff of blue smoke on start-up, only for a second or two. The only other time I have seen it is when it has sat ticking over for ages, and then you blip the throttle. Peope following say nothing comes out at all, even giving it beans through gear change etc. Don't know if it would make any difference but I have recently been running 0W40 mobile 1 as it only comes out for short blasts. Does that help?
uk-rich
think that oil is considered to be a bit thin for the supe

ADD
do a search and people are saying that 0w-40 is good for the soop, then people say it aint, then people say it is....and so on and so on

Thorin
It'll be fine, just stick some 5W40 in the next time you change the oil. You'll probably find it will clear up the smoke. On a new car it probably wouldn't be an issue but I reckon it's valve stem oil seals starting to wear that's showing up because of the thinner oil. Nothing to worry about really. suprattgaz
That's what i like to hear - nothing to worry about? Won't damage if they are worn will it? Guess not.
Clarkey
I remember Clarkey having this blue smoke at a local meet, and it was indeed turbo seals gone. Indeedy. My stock tubbies - were on they're way out. Hence went single - 2 months or so after. My SMIC had almost a 1/2 a litre of oil in it. I've no idea how much life the stockers had left in them .. Clarkey
Check the interior of the IC piping and the intake pipe - for excessive oil. Compressed air should be the only thing flowing into the intake - if there is oil seeping out of the turbo seals - through the IC - into the intake .. then that could explain your smoke. I'm not suggesting you do this - because I'm smart. But only passing on the advice that the tech-heads gave me.

Clarkey
What about the pipework into your IC ? You might not be able to diagnose this .. until someone looks at it for you. Uncle Mark & Paul - of Phoenix, Watford are the chaps to speak to.
