Paul Laing
Just fitted my HKS SSQV from Envy over the weekend, been making some very nice sounds!!!! Very happy, but is there a way you can change the sound on these? Make it louder, quieter etc? Paul
oxygene
There is a screw thread on the unit, but I was told not to alter it as it was supposed to be set to work best with my car.....? If you do get your to make any more noise please do tell how you did it, so I can do the same to mine....?
Soonto_HAS_soop
To change the sound, you have to buy the optional inserts. You can see them on http://www.mvpmotorsports.com under the MkIV, I'm sure that Envy could get you them. DON'T alter the bolt on the rear, as that adjusts the sensitivity of the valve. If it's too weak it will just leak air, and stiffle boost. Ben..

oxygene
Well i bet my car will sound different when I get it back from Abbey. Considering I wasnt boosting properly, plus now I have also got hybrids, which will make one hell of a difference. Will I get much more BHP's through having hybrids in stock mode, or do I need to tweak the engine to get more BHP...?
Soonto_HAS_soop
I doubt you'll get much more if any, you'd need to up the boost, which the hybrids should be able to take. They may take a while longer to spool as they are now metal bladed not ceramic. Ben..
oxygene
How do I go about upping the boost (dumbass mode: on) If I do up the boost, I take it them I can use a boot controller yeah (again dumbass mode: on)
Ian C
The whole point of hybrids is that they flow a denser air charge at the same boost pressure -Ian

This can and normally will lead to boost creep, which is what I am trying to work around at the moment. The other method is to remove 1 cat and then stick in a boost controller to up the pressure, again you'll need a fuel cut defender. The Total De-Cat is the cheapest method, as you could run with a restrictor ring and bring the boost down to a set level of 1.2bar or something. Ben.. Gaz Walker
I am picking these up (the other HKS SQV filters) whilst in Japan so will have a few in stock in the New Year, the Gold Ones which look more bling and make a different noise, not sure if they are loud or quieter yet... Gaz Walker
I've done a bit research on these as my knowledge was a bit sketchy: The gold insert sounds the same as stock and is a dress up only item. The purple (the aftermarket one) insert will remove the high pitched squeal of the SSQV and make it more of a woosh sound, similar to the Blitz DD. Heres the sound of the SSQV with the special purple insert on a celica ST185 (1.16m video - mpeg) http://www.envyperformance.com/images/products/bov/big/st185bov.mpeg
