Artist advice needed

I need some advice for my lady. She recently said that she felt like drawing again. "You can draw" says I? "Yes" says she, and off she goes. Well, when she showed me her drawings I was gob smacked. She produced pencil drawings that were superb. She then went on to show me more colour pencil drawings (equalliy good) and then some water colours. The majority of her work is of animals (birds, reptiles etc) as she does not enjoy painting people portraits.

Now then, my question is, how can she promote her work and who too? I have suggested that a potential market could be pet portraits done from pictures supplied. Do you lot think this is viable? If so, where would she advertise?

If you have any other suggestions, I would be most grateful to hear them.

BTW, she did a quick pencil drawing of my Supra after seeing it in an old Fast Car magazine - and bloody superb that was too! :D

Dude, I'm prob as much use as a chocolate teapot when it comes to advising anyone on business practises, but what about local art/craft shows.

Maybe set a small stall up with pictures and the drawings from them and see if you get anything that way.

Some examples on here would be good too.. I think anyone that can draw is amazing.. and I'm not talking stick figures either.. :)

But seriously, how long have you two been together without you knowing she used to draw..

Scan the one of the soop in and post it up too.. 'What do you get the guy who has everything, a picture of his car'.

Hope that it works out and she does well with this.

I just thought, could you sell this service on ebay? Send a picture to you and you send the drawing back?? Just an idea. (I'll only want 2.5% if this works out :D )

Thank you old chap - some usefull ideas there. We have been together for about 8 years and I seem to recall her saying something about drawing but didn't take a lot of notice. :D

I will try and scan the quick pencil drawing she did of the car and put it up. She really is very good. :D

Put a selection of the drawings on a website (her own - you can get space quite cheaply)

Point to the website with a small classified ad in the dog magazines, car magazines or whatever market you want to aim at.

A test would be a simple "mobile pet portrait" service advertised in your local "free ads" or paper. Might be enough finance the website etc...

colin, there are a number of sites specifically for artists to showcase work. Both pro and am.

Give me a shout if you want some info. I could always pop round and talk you through it.

BTW - your pressie arrived before I went away so I need to drop that off at some point.

Ta mate

That sounds great Lewis. Let me know when you want to visit and I will ensure the Dyson has been whipped around. :D

Poor women, she probably thought you weren't interested all this time.

I heared "do you want something to eat", "do you fancy a coffee" and other such niceties. "I used to do some drawing" didn't fall into that category :D

OMG you've just reinacted my life. 'do you want me to make you a fabulous meal' - answer YES straight away. 'we need to book such and such date of work' - ok. Two weeks later, complete memory loss.

cj,

i paint canal roses and castles, or used to:taped: in my spare time for craft fairs,(the car thing now takes my time) any how local craft fairs are around 10 to 15 quid for a pitch, and are all over the place this time of the year, check the high schools in the area they were always a good money spinner. (before doing some sketches of local landmarks:sly: ;) .) then theres always the boat shows this time of the year. canal boats are easy to draw and the boat enthusiusts (spell?) love them.

any type of show be it airoplanes , boats, cars, dogs etc.. with that topic is a good blag..

Family car ideas???
