Batgirl
Could anyone help on how to get the tensioner arm back because the arm has gone out as far as it can go. I'm having problems trying to get it back and would appreciate any help anyone could give me cos I've not yet started to pull it apart. I don't want to risk breaking anything. I am sure I have the correct layout but would like to double check.
Steve W
do you mean the ALTERNATOR belt tensioner B'G' ???
Batgirl
yes that's the one
Steve W
It 'just' pushes back...... but BOY, does it take some PUSHING ! ! It's just an internal spring of some sort (?) and happily pushes back to allow the belt on. BUT, you have to 'crowbar' it backwards (obviously without bending/ruining, so on the 'solid' bit of the arm) FatS.
Steve W
I think the tensioner DAMPENER (the Gas ROD thingie) causes most of the resistance when you're trying to force it back. BUT, you can't really take THAT off - too much hassle to put THAT back on then ?!? (best ONE person 'prises' arm away, and OTHER puts the belt round the pulley ?) richardharmon
I just put a socket set on the nut that holds the pully part and move it the same direction you would to tighten the nut, works a treat for me. I'm not saying it's easy to move by any means, but I can get the belt on without help if I use this method.
