steve spedd
Guys/Girls. Please help me. I have an NA manual and im sure there is something wrong with it but i have taken it to two jap performance garages in chesterfield and they both think that nothing is wrong with it... So what do I need?? I am appealing to anyone who has a N/A manual soop who will take me for a spin to see if the power delivery is the same as mine... my fault with the car can be seen in this thread. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=62910 Please help me people as im really fed up with it, i just want my car to be better... bromy
If that's at the wheels then it is fine, it does have the same shitty dip on the curve as mine though
steve spedd
it does but yours dips off @ 6.4 - 6.5k and mine dips off @ 5.5k... surley thats not right? what are you running to get 282 horses?? that cant be an N/A and surley the T61 would give you more than that?? N/A with a T61 at only 5psi last year, was your graph at the wheels?, I would look at ignition, igniter, cap, rotor, leads, plugs
steve spedd
N/A with a T61 at only 5psi last year, was your graph at the wheels?, I would look at ignition, igniter, cap, rotor, leads, plugs im pretty sure it was @ the wheels. you loose about 30-40 hp right? making it 220 - 230 ish. only things i have do to modify it are back decat. back box and induction kit... i have changed the cap, rotor plugs. Had a garage do something to it today and he said the ignition timing is correct and if anything its running slightly too rich. in other words fuel pump is ok. i said could it be the leads and he thought not. my theory was if its running too rich too much fuel is getting in and therefore it could be a weak spark. it only happens @ high revs. Could this be the leads? Just not being up to supply sufficient spark?? Its not an intermittent problem.
Chris Wilson
Update... Thought i best stick this on: Looks perfectly OK to me, the dip is normal, it's when the variable length intake system changes over.

steve spedd
Looks perfectly OK to me, the dip is normal, it's when the variable length intake system changes over. Hello Chris. You think this seems ok then? its just feels really sluggish in 3rd mainly. Just doesn’t want to go after 5900. Maybe be being stupid but I thought it would pull up to the red line? The thing that makes me think its not running properly is that I don’t ever remember the car doing this… Could the decat have effected anything? Thanks for the help Bromy and Chris

steve spedd
Ok, Just been to pick up the soop. its has had a 'wide band test'? Basically to check if anything is wrong with the fuelling system...... Nothing! Timing, ht leads, injectors, fuel pump etc.... all working fine. The guy at the garage (http://www.nitro-performance.com) thinks the cars problem could be to do with the valves not opening fully?? Basically suggested valve shimming? I think he said. Any ideas if this could help my problem and if I could do anything to test this before hand? I saw this, would it help at all... http://www.speeding.co.uk/acatalog/PowerBoost.html (the power boost stuff) Tad lost on this subject now... steve spedd
cheers mate, really good of you! if its ok ill let you know? the guy at the garage thinks its something to do with the valves sticking or not opening properly?? im no expert lol! i thought i would give that cleaning stuff ago. seen some posts on the VW gti owners web site saying that is felt to improve the car. i know it wont give me power. but might clean the engine and help a little... will let you know what happens! i was thinking if its still not sorted i'd take a trip to the meet in Manchester (Mascrat Manor) or the Wakefield meet later this month... JODY T
No p*ss take lol My NAs been in the garage since dec, Hence pulled and used, not bloody pulls and uses! Yeah, i used optimax coz that was closest, but any higher ron petrol seemed to make the car pull alot smoother/faster... Empty your tank and try it out...
