terribleturner
I was outside about to put new pads on Sabrinas FTO when i noticed when about to take the caliper off that the disc is flapping about. Now there's no way that the disc should be moving forward and backward is there?? Am really worried as she's been complaining it's been pulling to the side. Pete
There's usually a screw or something that holds them in place, but it's not a requirement. The caliper, pads and wheel will hold it firmly in place. Pulling in general or just under braking?
terribleturner
OK cool, just never noticed them like that before on any car i've changed the pads on.
Pete
My kitcar is the same and it's come up before on other forums/cars..nobody seems to think it's a problem. I do not know anything about the FTO specifically though.
terribleturner
Must say i was a little worried to start with, but thinking about it with the caliper holding it in place seems alright. Thanks.

When you tighten the wheel up that should lock it all in place too?

Steve W
Nope, just held on by the wheels (and the 'calipers') . . . . .
terribleturner
That's intresting, never noticed that. Never really inspected how they were held on as i didn't wanna mess in areas i didn't know.
chilli
yeah it's the wheel nuts that clamp it all together, so it will float around when the wheel is off. The caliper doesn't really do much to hold it in place, it would all go very wobbly indeed if the wheel nuts weren't doing their job, and you'd know about that straight away! Yeah, the caliper only 'holds' it on once the wheel is off. In FACT it's a shame really as otherwise you wouldn't need to undo the caliper to CHANGE the discs ! ! !
