far
Hello Techies, When I hit 120 leptons in 4th gear if Im really thrashing it and 5k revs(ish) I get what feels like a revlimiter kicking in - I was speaking to Neil & OXY and they said they had a similiar problem and had to replace his plugs - anyone also had similiar ? Or confirm this is defo plugs need replacing or reseating ?
Gaz Walker
Its either Fuel Cut (cold weather) or mis-firing. Probably the first... Gaz.
SkyJawa
Gaz - he's got an FCD mate, so I reckon that means its missfiring? Get some Denso's in there mate and I reckon you'll be there. Especially if its on the plugs it came over with like mine did!
far
My car is stock apart from zorst & filter - didnt know I had a FCD ?
SMW
Fuel cut normally exhibits itself with sudden loss of power and dash warning lights coming on. It's not a pleasant experience:eek:
Gaz Walker
Originally posted by far My car is stock apart from zorst & filter - didnt know I had a FCD ? lol Right - FCD is £80, Densos £70. Shouldn't be too expensive to fix! Both in stock. Gaz.
SkyJawa
Id be surprised with an exhaust and filter if you didn't have an FCD mate? However, if you have both CATs still in then the boost would still be just under the limit, so could be Fuel Cut in that case! or I'll just shut up! LMAO
Steve Cargill
Without an FCD unless the plugs are well and truly goosed stock plugs will be fine. Fuel Cut is about 14-15psi, stock plugs are normally OK to about 15-16psi.
far
Cheers guys - must admit - it happened the other day too and a few of the dashboard lights came on including the engine warning light. So how can I tell if I have FCD ? where do I look ?

Ahhh, that will be stock fuel cut. 1st time it happens you probably crapped yourself and thought something big had broken? Plugs giving up feels like a soft cut, the boost will waviour about, quite smooth really. So how can I tell if I have FCD ? where do I look ? Normally a match box sized thing wired into the ECU under the plastic box under the passenger side carpet.
SkyJawa
Yup - thats defo fuel cut mate. Get an FCD, and some cooler plugs won't harm either and bob's yer jackrabbit!
far
Ahhh, that will be stock fuel cut. 1st time it happens you probably crapped yourself and thought something big had broken? Yep pood myself big style Steve - thought the engine had blown up or summink The way it happened though I thought (and felt) it had just hit the rev limiter because at the time I had gone from 6th to 4th gear to waste a TT who was up my ass:D ( I remembered thinking to myself "gosh I hit the limiter how sh1t!" lol So general consensus is I should get FCD ? I take it this only happens in cold weather How comes it is doing this as I am running pretty stock at the moment I thought you only need FCD if you are decatted with higher boost etc...Neil I am getting more and more tempted to get decats at least - scared they will kill the life of my turbos though
Nic
Would be worth fitting a boost gauge when you fit the FCD so you know what your turbos are doing, especially if you remove the cats.
far
Yep boost gauge is defo next on the list Nic,just ordered my Veilside kit so a bit skint dude - BTW if I dont get decats is there any point getting a boost gauge ?
SkyJawa
You'll be ok mate - just don't run silly boost, keep it down to 1.2 max but more like 1.1 and she'll be fine. Anything more and fit a fuel pump and regulator. The colder air means the charge temp is less, the air is denser, so more fuel/air means more boost! As you have a backbox, thats less restrictive than stock so it allows more boost even with the cats still in as it flows better, so its likely that this cooler air is putting it borderline fuel cut at the moment. It've been hitting about 1.1 now I've sorted the restrictor, last night was 1.2 - so it goes to show what diff the air/temp makes!
Nic
If you fit an FCD it will allow your turbos to boost higher than standard fuel cut >14/15psi. If you have the cats fitted then you should be within safe limits, but I'd still recommend a boost gauge to be on the safe side. If you remove the cats you should definitely get a gauge fitted. SkyJawa
Far - "Nick" was there so thats probably the reason for confusion!!!! Make sure its a you get a CW decat, that way you shouldn't need to put a restrictor in it as that should keep the boost to reasonable levels!! Or maybe Gaz does similar ones? Ya don't fancy a defi then?
far
defis are out of my budget at the moment - I liked the look of the blue apexis in geezas car though
far
Just bringing this thread back - how hard (or easy) is it to fit FCD - and are we DEFO DEFO sure thats what this is as I dont wanna spend all that money and end up still having the same problem. Thanks in advance guys
SkyJawa
You defo want an FCD mate Theres a couple of VFCC's in the for sale section! Its easy to fit - 4 wires to connect by splicing in to the ECU wires, did mine myself and was easy enough! NB, when I got the FCD in place, and it allowed the boost up - thats when I found my plugs were shafted
far
Cheers Neil - youre a star might need some more advise once I get it on what wires connect to what
