Laptop DVD problems

Animal

Recommended Posts

My g/f has a Compaq Evo N1015 laptop which has stopped playing DVD's.

If you insert a data or audio CD, it spins up straight away and plays. Put a DVD in the drive and you can hear the motor spool but nothing happens. Every so often it'll play one, but it can go for weeks without ever seeing a DVD that's put in - even ones it has played in the past. I have tried uninstalling the drive from Device Mangler (sorry, manager) but with no effect.

Any ideas?

Animal, if you run Powerdvd or Windows Media Player after the disc is loaded does it play the movie? Just trying to work out if its an autoplay problem or drive problem.

Rob, your drive sounds like its FUBAR. What package are you trying to burn with?
