Animal
My g/f has a Compaq Evo N1015 laptop which has stopped playing DVD's. If you insert a data or audio CD, it spins up straight away and plays. Put a DVD in the drive and you can hear the motor spool but nothing happens. Every so often it'll play one, but it can go for weeks without ever seeing a DVD that's put in - even ones it has played in the past. I have tried uninstalling the drive from Device Mangler (sorry, manager) but with no effect. Any ideas?
Rob
I've got a similar problem where my CD-DVD drive will only play CDs, it won't read or write to CD-Rs etc. If anyone out there can help with both these problems.
MaveriK
Animal, if you run Powerdvd or Windows Media Player after the disc is loaded does it play the movie? Just trying to work out if its an autoplay problem or drive problem. Rob, your drive sounds like its FUBAR. What package are you trying to burn with? Animal
If I try to run WMP, etc , or if I open Windows Explorer & click on the DVD drive, it just comes up with a 'No disc in drive' error box.
Gamer
I do not know if this will help or not but it cannot hurt to try. I would try updating all the drivers for the laptop, you can find them here: http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/EvoNotebook/us/family/model/5243.html?lang=en&cc=us&prodSeriesId=316644 Another longshot possibility is maybe the DVD player has the wrong region setting ?
