Conrad
We've just bought an old farm house and we're moving in soon. We plan to convert the cellars into a Pool Room with Darts, arcade machines, sofas, tv, hi-fi etc etc Our very own pub!.... We also wanted to have some beer on draught down there. Anyone know exactly what equipment we need to pull a pint? Or anyone know somewhere on net which illustrates the set-up?
Pixelfill
Electric or hand pull ? Mike
Pixelfill
Hand pull is typically simpler relying on a vacuum, however this tends to only work well for real ales. Electric relies on Gas (A Nitrogen mix) to deliver the beer, you'll need to keep topping up on gas. Bear in mind also that Beer in Barrels has a relatively short shelf life when opened, game on This link might help a little Mike

Top bloke The only beer I'd want is Carling/Stella (for me) and Guiness (for my Dad) I take it these would rely on Gas? Also, any ideas on the shelf life of these type of beers? I have no idea how many pints are in a barrel (approx 190 springs to mind?) so don't know how long it would take us to drink it. Both myself and my Dad are very fussy when drinking beer, neither of us will drink p1ss. Do you thing the inactivity on the pumps will cause the beer to deteriate(sp)? Pixelfill
I can't remember what the shelf life is tbh. but you don't have to buy full barrels I'm fairly sure you can buy smaller. Your biggest annoyance if you aren't using the pumps frequently will be cleaning the lines. you'll basically lose whatever is in the lines from the barrel at the end of every session so make sure you drink more than you throw away. Yes both Lager and Guiness will require gas to get the desired effect (bubbles in the Lager, and Black stuff in the Guiness - otherwise you'll probably just have a pint of the Creamy head) You will definitely need a chiller as well. Best of luck - I'm jealous Mike
Pixelfill
oh and NEVER lean over the top of a keg when connecting the tap. One bar I worked in had a hole in the cellar ceiling where the tap had gone through when being attached incorrectly Mike

Kip
I am employed by the Brewing Food & beverage Suppliers Association and previous to this was sale manager for a company that manufactured beer dispensing equipment, and have installed just a couple of Tbars and hand pulls so have just a tad of knowledge about the subject. My advice to you is seek professional advice from an independent installer, things can and do go very pear shaped if you were to get anything wrong. You need guidance and training to be able to safely operate this sort of equipment. If you need more advice PM me.
