Shocks, opinions needed

Had a service done on the supe at Phoenix on saturday (bloody good job done by Mark) and It was mentioned that I should be looking at getting some new front shock absorbers. I know there are a great many around and I'm after a few opinions on what would be good for a non modded NA. I'm not after anything too pricey cos' I'm also looking at getting one of those replica front spoilers from Whifbitz and maybe a new induction kit.:search:

Any advice is very welcome. (and thanks for those of you that mentioned Phoenix for a service).

If you just want to replace the dampers and don't want height/damping adjustment, then I would go for a set of new Bilstein dampers. These were fitted to the late model Supras as standard by Toyota and are one of the best quality dampers available.

I've supplied dozens of sets of these to members and can get them delivered to your door for less than £400 a set.

Alternatively if you want height and damping adjustment then I woudl recommend a set of Tein Super Street coilovers, see details and prices HERE

£400! sounds a little steep for my budget, after getting someone to install them I'm probably looking at around £500? What are those for £222 like?

The EDFC for £222 is an electronic damper control, not a damper.

If you need cheaper dampers, I can supply 4 x standard OEM Toyota dampers for £226 including surface post (4-5 weeks) or £270 including airmail (1 week). I would first need to order the dampers from Japan, which would take around 4-5 weeks to HK, plus postage time to UK.

i think you have picked the wrong car if your worried about price or running costs!!!, £400 is very cheap for a suspension, imho

i spent £650 ish on my set up with koni's and eibachs and even that is not a lot compared to going into coilovers

totally agree with jamesmark, under £400 is a fantastic price for bilstein dampers....won't get a price as low as that over here i don't think.

my suggestion would be not to bother with the induction kit (stock is easily good enough) and put the cash towards new shocks.

to be honest, it's been discussed many times and unless you're running VERY big bhp (unlikely on an n/a) then the stock box and filter is more than enough and will protect your engine more than most induction kits as well (there are one or two exceptions i believe).

with regards to the shocks, the bilsteins mentioned by nic are as cheap as you'll get and probably one of the best too (the bilsteins were a stock option on the jspec supras so a lot of them came from the factory with this setup).

hope this helps (and i'm not wrong!!)

dont listen to him he has a pink car :D

billies (bilstiens) are a good choice as are koni's aswell, unless your a serious speed freak and need immaculate handling then dont look any further as the only upgrade better that those 2 are coilovers at about £800+ (there are cheaper coilovers but entry level)

who's mark?? lol

i seriously doubt whether an induction kit will raise it by much at all let alone 30bhp.....even if it did, you'd probably have hardly any filtration and knacker your engine.

bpu is a term used for TT's but if i understand what you're after then basically get yourself a full stainless exhaust and double decat for a kick-off.
